Role Summary
As an Integration & Interoperability Engineer within the Substation Automation Product Line (SA PL), you will be the technical authority for validating system reliability and performance. You will lead the integration of Control and Protection IEDs, specifically focusing on GOOSE messaging performance, IEC 61850 top-down engineering, and relay configuration. You will act as a bridge between R&D and regional execution teams, ensuring that our grid automation solutions meet the highest standards of interoperability and operational excellence.
Core Responsibilities
- System Integration & Interoperability:Perform deep-dive integration and interoperability testing for Substation Automation systems. Validate communication architectures, ensuring seamless connectivity across multi-vendor IED environments.
- Performance Validation:Specialize in testing GOOSE (Generic Object Oriented Substation Event) messaging performance and reliability to ensure sub-millisecond switching and protection coordination under heavy network load.
- Top-Down Engineering:Lead the implementation of top-down engineering workflows. Utilize system configuration tools to manage SCL (Substation Configuration Language) files, ensuring data consistency from design to site commissioning.
- Technical Reporting & Dashboards:Prepare comprehensive technical dashboards and status reports for management, visualizing test results, system bottlenecks, and interoperability compliance metrics.
- Technical Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis:Provide expert-level support for field issues. Conduct failure analysis, generate detailed technical reports, and lead task forces on strategic projects to resolve complex system anomalies.
- Qualification & Best Practices:Maintain the factory qualification platform. Update testing environments to reflect new R&D releases, ensuring early identification of potential field issues.
- Leadership & Mentoring:Coach regional project engineering teams on advanced IEC 61850 workflows and troubleshooting techniques. Act as a technical lead for regional deployments.
Technical Qualifications
- Education:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Domain Expertise:Strong knowledge of Power System Protection and Substation Control.
- Communication Protocols:Deep expertise in IEC 61850 (Edition 1 & 2), including GOOSE, SV, MMS, and PTP (IEEE 1588). Proficient in legacy protocols (IEC 103, Modbus, DNP3.0).
- Engineering Tooling:Hands-on experience with top-down engineering tools (e.g., IED configuration tools, System Configurator) and network analysis tools (Wireshark).
- Portfolio Knowledge:Proficiency with RTU platforms (e.g., D20, D400, G500), DS Agile, C264 BCUs, and industrial ethernet switch configuration.
- Safety & Compliance:Familiarity with Quality metrics, Cyber Security standards (e.g., IEC 62443), and functional safety requirements.
Leadership & Soft Skills
- Strategic & Tactical:Proven ability to translate strategic R&D goals into tactical site implementation.
- Leadership:Demonstrated capability to lead task forces and influence cross-functional teams in high-pressure project environments.
- Communication:Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex technical issues to both R&D engineers and field technicians.
- Adaptability:Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously under stringent time constraints.
- Travel:Willingness and ability to travel (25%–50%) for site troubleshooting, training, and strategic project support.
