Summary
This position is located in the Midwest Regional Office in the Directorate of Facilities, Planning, and Infrastructure. This temporary promotion or detail assignment is limited to a maximum duration of 180-days.
Major Duties
The employee serves as the manager of the regional Facility Management Division. The Division supports parks in the management, maintenance, repair and construction of park facilities, including buildings, railroads, utilities, trails, roads and other physical assets. The employee reports to the Associate Regional Director (ARD) for Facilities, Planning and Infrastructure, and provides leadership, guidance and direction to 62 parks with over 7,000 constructed assets with a current replacement value of over $7 billion. The employee possesses leadership and management skills and broad expertise in facility management, including project development, estimating, and management, to supervise fund source managers in meeting program goals. Day-to-Day Responsibilities: Provides daily leadership and direction to regional facility management staff and branch chiefs, ensuring alignment with National Park Service policies, regional priorities, and safety requirements. Oversees execution of facility management programs and fund sources, monitoring project progress, resolving issues, and ensuring effective use of resources across multiple park units. Coordinates regularly with park leadership, regional programs, and national offices to communicate guidance, address operational needs, and support project development and asset management activities. Reviews and approves facility management actions, including work planning priorities, project proposals, funding allocations, and performance metrics for regional programs. Monitors asset management data and reporting systems, ensuring accuracy, compliance with national data calls, and informed decision-making for maintenance, repair, and capital investments. What is a temporary promotion? A temporary promotion is a temporary assignment of an employee to higher grade and occupational series for which an employee is qualified. Upon completion of the temporary promotion, the employee returns to their official position and grade. What is a Detail? A detail refers to a temporary assignment of an employee to a different role for a defined period. Once the assignment ends, the employee resumes their regular responsibilities. During this time, they maintain their official position, as well as their status, grade, and pay.
