Summary
This position is located in Seasonal Staffing Office-Pacific West Region, in the Building and Utilities Division. The selectee will perform recurring building and or utility and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers. Major Duties
This is a temporary appointment intended for seasonal work that is less than 6 months or 1040 hours from the date of appointment/service year. It is expected this position will be terminated upon completion of the seasons work. The agency may non-competitively rehire an eligible temporary seasonal worker in subsequent years who works less than 6 months or 1040 hours in their service year. As a Maintenance Worker (Trails) (Seasonal) your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: Works under a trails maintenance leader or other higher-graded position. The position is primarily engaged in assisting in the maintenance and construction of graded and paved trails, trail drainage, trail bridges, and guard rails. Assists in the installation, repair and replacement of water diversion bars, cribbing and retainer walls. Removes windfalls, rockslides, surface outcroppings and debris from trails. Builds up tread surfaces in eroded areas. Installs stepping-stones at creek crossings where bridges cannot be constructed. Safely and effectively, uses hand power tools required for the job and has the ability to maintain these tools properly. May perform other duties such as: routine painting, carpentry, janitorial, cleaning, trash pick-up, grounds keeping, digging, raking, or sweeping; assisting in transporting camp and work supplies and construction materials; removal of snow and ice from trails and roads WG-4749-07 MAINTENANCE WORKER (TRAILS) MAJOR DUTIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING: Performs masonry work, primarily dry stone, in the construction, stabilization, and maintenance to historic and non-historic structures, mostly on the park trail system. Masonry tasks include the maintenance, repair, and construction of walls (both single- and multi-tier), bridge abutments, causeways, riprap trail tread and other similar structures, using primarily dry-stone techniques. In accordance with directions, quarries, cuts, shapes and finishes stone for use in walls, walkways, bridge abutments and aesthetically pleasing rock walls. Obtains and transports materials by human power, equipment (such as Bobcat loader), or rigging equipment such as a high-line setup. These tasks are normally performed under the direction of a higher- graded worker/leader/supervisor. Performs carpentry work. primarily using heavy log and rough-sawn lumber, on trail structures such as log checks, foot-bridges. multi-use bridges, corrals, hitch rails, and boardwalks. Log work tasks involve the use of a chain saw to fell, buck, notch, and/or shape both native and pressure treated logs in the maintenance and construction of multi-use and foot bridges, water bars and retainer steps, crib walls and steps.
