Summary
This position is in Region 5, Water Division, Permits Branch, UIC Section. About Region 5: Region 5. This is an office-centered position--you must physically report to the duty station stated in this announcement on a regular basis.
Major Duties
At the highest advertised grade, you will: Apply analytical and field methods to scientific, geologic, and environmental issues to ensure accurate, defensible data and effective, compliant program implementation that protects human health and the environment. Provide advice to state, local, and tribal governments on developing, executing, and monitoring environmental/scientific policies, plans, and programs to ensure compliant, effective implementation and achieve environmental protection objectives. Review and implement environmental standards, policies, and regulations to ensure scientifically sound, compliant, and consistently applied regulations supported by high-quality, defensible data. Perform Underground Injection Control (UIC) permitting and oversee state and industry pollution control programs to ensure compliant, scientifically defensible implementation that protects underground sources of drinking water and meets national program requirements. If you are hired at a lower grade level, your duties will be less complex and you will have more supervisory oversight. You may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses. NOTE: Career ladder promotions are not automatic, and all eligibility and qualifications requirements must be met in order to progress to the next grade level. One or more positions may be filled (in the organization advertised and/or in other organizations), if appropriate to the position.
