Job Description
Reporting directly to lab director Dr. Jay Golden, Director of the Dynamic Sustainability Lab ( DSL ) at Syracuse University and the Pontarelli Professor of Environmental Sustainability and Finance. This position will support the lab director, Assistant Research Professor, and lab Managing Director Dr. Janire Pascual. The work will support research into the U.S. Biobased economy spanning bioenergy, biochemicals, bioplastics, biobased consumer products, Sustainable Aviation Fuels and biobased building materials. This will include supporting the further development and expansion of an interactive biobased feedstocks and biobased products database and interactive website see: https://www.advancingmarkets.org. as part of a multi-year grant from the USDA’s Advancing Markets for Producers program. Additionally, the researcher will provide support in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the required research, data management and data visualization. The researcher will be called up on to support and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students working on this project. Opportunities for limited teaching are available as mutually agreed upon. Finally, the researcher will participate, as well as lead in the development of technical reports, research articles, and general interest articles. This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU , Local 200United.
Responsibilities
Experienced researcher in the area of environmental engineering/sciences or biobased feedstocks, biochemicals and/or bioenergy. Strong skills with data management, data visualization. Understanding of biobased supply chains preferable. Preferred candidates will have a demonstrated understanding and experience with the role and application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in data development and data visualization including Claude and Notebook LP. Preferred candidates will understand the role and limitations of Env. Life Cycle Assessments and greenhouse gas accounting and reporting (scopes 1, 2 and 3). Must have excellent written and verbal communications in English with evidence of technical reports in English.
Qualifications
Doctoral degree ie. PhD or equivalent in one of the following fields: environmental sciences, environmental policy, environmental engineering, bio-agricultural sciences/engineering, chemical engineering, supply chain management, computer sciences.
