Job Description
A nuclear energy organization is seeking an IT Project Manager to support professional-level planning, coordination, documentation, budget tracking, and execution of large-scale information systems projects.
The role is responsible for coordinating cross-functional project teams, managing project budgets, maintaining detailed documentation, monitoring project progress, and providing periodic status updates in alignment with internal procedures and standard project processes. The ideal candidate will bring strong project management discipline, technical systems awareness, budget ownership, and the ability to work effectively across IT, business, operations, and plant-support teams.
This is not a remote PM role and not a light project coordinator opening. The right person will be comfortable working on-site in a highly regulated environment, following formal procedures, managing documentation carefully, communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and keeping project activity moving with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and support large-scale information systems projects with minimal supervision.
- Manage project activities in compliance with internal procedures, project standards, and business processes.
- Maintain organized project documentation, schedules, status updates, deliverables, risks, issues, and decision records.
- Provide periodic project status updates to leadership, project teams, and stakeholders.
- Coordinate with project managers, line managers, technical teams, business stakeholders, and cross-functional partners.
- Establish project priorities and maintain awareness of related project activities, dependencies, timelines, and business impacts.
- Direct and coordinate activities of assigned project team members.
- Manage project budgets, monitor spending, and support budget reporting.
- Monitor project processes and recommend improvements that support operating efficiency.
- Support application and information systems work by helping define requirements, procedures, technical impacts, and implementation needs.
- Coordinate application changes with customers, peers, analysts, and technical teams.
- Help ensure application changes, customizations, technical updates, and related processes are clearly identified, packaged, migrated, and documented according to standards.
- Identify project issues, process failures, data concerns, resource constraints, and integrity risks.
- Work with technical teams to evaluate solution options and support informed decision-making.
- Communicate project status, risks, actions, and next steps clearly.
- Perform other project-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Ability to work on-site.
- Bachelors degree in a technology or business discipline with 1 to 5 years of progressively increasing professional responsibility, including:
- At least 2 years of project management or program oversight experience.
- At least 1 year of budget management experience.
- At least 1 year in a technical position.
- Alternate qualifying path: Associate degree with 10 years of progressively increasing professional responsibility, including:
- At least 2 years of project management or program oversight experience.
- At least 2 years of budget management experience.
- At least 2 years in a technical position.
- Alternate qualifying path: No degree with 12 years of progressively increasing professional responsibility, including:
- At least 3 years of project management or program oversight experience.
- At least 3 years of budget management experience.
- At least 2 years in a technical position.
- Strong leadership skills with ability to build cohesive cross-departmental project teams.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to identify issues, gather relevant information, evaluate alternatives, and recommend solutions.
- Sound judgment and ability to make decisions based on facts, rational assumptions, organizational goals, and resource constraints.
- Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills.
- Ability to set goals, establish priorities, and maintain awareness of interrelated project activities.
- Ability to work in a formal, procedure-driven environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- IT project management experience in utilities, energy, nuclear, power generation, government, engineering, construction, or another regulated environment.
- Experience managing application systems projects or IT business systems projects.
- Experience coordinating application analysts, developers, infrastructure teams, business users, and technical stakeholders.
- Experience with project budgets, forecasts, spend tracking, and financial reporting.
- Experience with SDLC, application implementation, system enhancements, data integrity issues, testing, deployment, change management, and documentation.
- PMP, CAPM, Agile, Scrum, ITIL, or similar project/process certification.
- Experience supporting long-duration contract assignments.
- Experience working under formal procedures, governance, compliance expectations, or change-control standards.
Success Measures
- Projects are planned, organized, documented, and executed according to required procedures and standards.
- Project status, risks, issues, dependencies, and budget updates are communicated clearly and consistently.
- Cross-functional teams stay aligned on priorities, deliverables, timelines, and responsibilities.
- Budget tracking is accurate and project spending is managed responsibly.
- Technical changes and implementation activities are documented and coordinated correctly.
- Project risks, process failures, and data or system integrity issues are identified early and escalated appropriately.
- Stakeholders receive timely support, clear communication, and reliable follow-through.
- Work is performed safely and professionally in a regulated plant environment.
CRG Benefits and Paid Sick Time
This is a W2 contract position through CRG. Eligible contractors have access to CRG benefits after 30 days which includes medical, dental, vision, 401K (after 12 months only), and other contractor benefit options.
Because this role is located in Washington, paid sick leave applies under Washington state requirements. Washington requires paid sick leave accrual of at least 1 hour for every 40 hours worked and is uncapped on how much sick time can be accrued. Typically ~6-9 days based on hours worked.
Work Environment
This is an on-site contract role supporting IT projects at a nuclear energy facility. The position requires strong procedural discipline, documentation accuracy, stakeholder coordination, and comfort working in a formal, regulated environment.
The assignment is structured as a 12-month renewable contract. This should be positioned as a long-term contract opportunity, not a short-term project. Renewals are common when work continues and performance is strong, and long-running contract assignments can extend for many years with increased yearly rates.
