We are looking for a Technical Director – Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to join our Energy & Resources Group. This is a leadership role with a strong focus on technical delivery, client engagement, and work-winning support.

What You’ll Do:
Lead the technical management and delivery of renewable energy projects, with a primary focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), across all phases from development, technology selection, sizing and feasibility through to design, procurement, installation, commissioning and operations.
Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients and internal GHD teams, bringing strong BESS expertise to guide technical decisions, demonstrate capability, and build confidence in project delivery.
Support client-facing and work-winning activities by providing technical input to proposals, strengthening client relationships, identifying future project opportunities, and representing GHD’s capability in the BESS market.
- You may also contribute to power generation opportunities including wind, solar, substations, and transmission design.
- Mentor junior engineers and support their development.
- Provide technical leadership and QA/QC oversight.
- Share knowledge and contribute to GHD’s global expertise.
What You Bring:
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering (advanced studies/masters – to be given preference)
Proven leadership experience in complex technical projects, with the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams, influence stakeholders, and support project outcomes at a senior level.
Minimum 10 years of industry experience, with deep technical expertise in BESS projects. Experience in a consulting environment will be highly regarded.
Strong technical capability in BESS is essential, with a target profile of 70% technical delivery and 30% client-facing, business development or work-winning exposure.
Ability to drive a high-performance culture through effective leadership, mentoring, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
