Summary

This located in Joshua Tree National Park, in the Science and Resource Stewardship Division. This position serves as a cultural resources specialist for the park and directs an intricate program of archeological and other cultural resources activities.

Major Duties

At the full performance level (GS-12) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Directs an intricate program of cultural resources management activities that involve sensitive and complex issues that may impact a wide variety of Park issues. Represents the superintendent when working with other on resource stewardship issues. Attends management and professional conferences and other events for the purpose of exchanging information and advancing advocacy for park stewardship. Assists cultural resources staff in park canters, and support offices by providing direct professional and progammative advice and support. Identifies research needs, prepares requests for proposals or statements of work and provides oversight for research projects. Will perform supervisory duties 20% or less of the time. Physical Demands: The position may require strenuous physical activity including periods of standing, walking, climbing, and lifting and carrying heavy objects. Some activities will occur in physically dangerous areas or settings. Documentary research and report writing work is sedentary, entails the ability to concentrate and write for long periods of time. Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Assignments may be performed in potentially hazardous areas including steep slopes, rocky terrain, volcanoes, caves, fire lines, arctic environments, swamps, deserts, and forests. Flying in fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters is possible.
