The Role: Sustainability Engineer / Quantity Surveyor (QS)
This role sits at the intersection of material quantification, Quantity Surveying, and environmental data tracking. The successful candidate will manage detailed spreadsheet-based calculations to deliver Whole Life Carbon and embodied carbon assessments for major building developments.
The role is suited to a mid-to-senior professional who can work independently, solve complex technical problems, and support a busy UK-based team operating within UK time zones.
Key Responsibilities
- Bring proven hands-on experience conducting detailed, spreadsheet-based Whole Life Carbon and embodied carbon assessments for buildings.
- Manage complex material quantification and environmental data tracking processes.
- Deliver highly detailed spreadsheet calculations for Whole Life Carbon and embodied carbon reporting.
- Use advanced Microsoft Excel and data handling skills to manage complex calculation sheets.
- Work independently through technical engineering, material data, and carbon assessment problems.
- Adapt to shifting requirements while maintaining accuracy across detailed assessment work.
- Support reporting requirements for major building developments.
- Collaborate with site contractors where required to monitor, track, and compare projected versus actual carbon output.
About You
- Mid-to-senior level experience in carbon assessment, sustainability engineering, quantity surveying, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Direct, hands-on experience conducting Whole Life Carbon and embodied carbon assessments for buildings.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel capability, with strong data handling and complex calculation experience.
- Strong ability to work independently without requiring continuous hand-holding across time zones.
- Comfortable managing highly detailed, technical spreadsheet work.
- Strong problem-solving skills across engineering, material data, or carbon assessment challenges.
- Familiarity with London Plan GLA Whole Life Carbon reporting is highly desirable.
- Experience working with site contractors to track actual versus projected carbon output is highly desirable.
