Introduction

A leading African Independent Power Producer (IPP) is looking to appoint a Project Development & Permitting Coordinator to support the development of utility-scale renewable energy projects across Southern Africa.

This role is heavily focused on permitting, environmental processes and driving projects through development milestones. We are specifically looking for someone with strong experience managing and coordinating permitting processes who has the ability to take ownership, drive timelines and ensure deliverables are achieved.

This opportunity would suit an Environmental Practitioner (EAP), Environmental Consultant, Town Planner, Spatial Planner or similar professional with strong permitting exposure looking to further their career within the renewable energy sector.

Duties & Responsibilities

Manage and drive project permitting processes across renewable energy projects
• Coordinate Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and appointed consultants
• Engage with municipalities, regulatory authorities, landowners and stakeholders
• Manage development trackers, timelines and permit applications
• Assist with securing land rights, servitudes and related agreements
• Review environmental reports, specialist studies and permitting documentation
• Coordinate inputs between technical, environmental and development teams
• Conduct site visits and support due diligence activities
• Identify and mitigate permitting and development risks to projects
• Support project acquisition and development activities across South Africa and broader SADC regions

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Town Planning, Geography, Spatial Planning or related field
• Minimum 2–5 years’ experience within permitting, environmental consulting, infrastructure development or renewable energy
• Strong experience managing permitting processes is essential
• Good understanding of South African environmental legislation and regulatory processes
• Strong coordination and stakeholder management ability
• Highly organised with strong follow-through and work ethic
• Valid driver’s licence
• Willingness to travel occasionally within Southern Africa

Advantageous Experience:
• Renewable energy project exposure (Solar PV, Wind, BESS, IPP projects)
• EIA / environmental authorisation processes
• Land use applications or spatial planning
• REIPPP exposure
• Experience engaging with municipalities and regulatory authorities
