A global environmental campaign organization is seeking applications for a Senior Communications Associate to support their communications team in their critical work to advance their campaigns in Brazil. The NGO's communications team is at the core of their campaigns for a living planet by amplifying their message, generating media and online coverage, and using the power of storytelling to drive impact. As their Senior Communications Associate, you will be a part of high-level campaigns to save the rainforests, rewild native ecosystems, reduce climate pollution, transform the way food is produced, and more!
This is an exciting opportunity to work with – and learn from – a powerhouse communications team, which regularly secures coverage in major publications across the Americas, Europe and Asia. You’ll be leading the organization's Comms effort in Brazil with a primary focus on supporting our local campaigns and building the relevance of our work in the country. In addition, you will help to keep all of our communications programs running efficiently and playing a key role in the day-to-day work.
🚀 Position Challenges | Key Responsibilities:
- Creating (and editing) internal and external content about the company activities in Brazil, including press releases, articles, social media posts, blog posts, op-eds and updates;
- Building relationships with Brazilian media;
- Supporting in creation of all press materials, including: press releases, reporter pitches, key messages, blog posts, fact sheets, talking points and contributed content such as op-eds and commentary;
- Localizing, adapting, and translating relevant global content from English to Portuguese for the Brazilian audience;
- Conducting research on media outlets and seeking out new opportunities for relationship building;
- Managing edits to our website and supporting on digital as required;
- Supporting the editing and production of campaign pieces, such as reports, fact-sheets and advertising;
- Contributing to campaign team planning and strategy discussions, including brainstorming and strategic and creative thinking;
- Assisting our global Communications team in day-to-day work;
- Supporting with the planning and delivery of in-person events, campaign activities, and webinars;
- Facilitating meetings, taking minutes, and ensuring follow-up is clear;
- Participating in organizational responsibilities, such as interviews, as needed;
🎯 Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field;
- Proven experience working in nonprofit organizations, advocacy initiatives, or communications environments;
- Strong experience engaging with the press and solid knowledge of the Brazilian media landscape;
- Solid understanding of social media platforms and digital communications strategies;
- Excellent research and writing skills, with strong attention to detail, accuracy, and fact-checking;
- Fluency in English and Portuguese.
➕ Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in advocacy-focused environments, particularly around public interest or policy issues;
- Knowledge or direct experience with environmental topics, sustainability, and climate change initiatives;
- Proficiency in Microsoft SharePoint and Excel, with the ability to manage and organize information efficiently;
- Professional proficiency in Spanish.
