The ICCT is seeking a self-motivated and dedicated Associate Researcher or Researcher to support a broad range of projects focused on decarbonization of the maritime sector, including alternative fuels and climate & health related impact assessments. The position will have a strong emphasis on policy development within theEuropean Union and the International Maritime Organization. This is a full-time position based in Germany, France, Sweden, or Ireland, with the condition of spending at least the first 6 months in Berlin, Germany.

You Will
- Associate Researcher Level:
- Conduct research on the European Union’s and IMO’s goals and policies for decarbonizing the maritime shipping sector.
- Analyze energy use and emissions from domestic and international shipping, compare policy alternatives, and develop recommendations to decarbonize maritime shipping and reduce air pollution.
- Write clear and concise publications to summarize ICCT’s research for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Present research findings internally and externally.
- Help organize outreach activities such as briefings, meetings, and workshops.
- Engage and collaborate with external stakeholders, including government entities and NGOs.
- Review other colleagues’ work as well as consultants’ work on program projects.

You Have
- Associate Researcher Level:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, transportation, economics, environmental science, public policy, or a related field.
- Master’s degree or higherin engineering, transportation, economics, environmental science, public policy,or a related field.
- Familiarity with environmental and energy challenges in the maritime shipping sector
- Associate Researcher or Researcher Level:
- Exceptionalquantitative, analytical, and research skills, with a demonstrated ability to understand highly technical information, draw policy-relevant conclusions, and communicate recommendations to decision-makers.
- Big data analysis or econometric modeling experience (preferred)
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, and strong programming experience in Python or similar (preferred).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Fluency in English is required; fluency in German would be an asset.

You must be able to connect research to policy and translate technical information to stakeholders. Occasional domestic (within the EU) and international travel will be required.
What we offer:
Our preference is for the candidate to work out of our office in the heart of Berlin, Germany. However, following
an initial minimum 6-month orientation training in our Berlin office, we also provide the opportunity for the candidate to work from anywhere else within Germany, France, Ireland, or Sweden, with the requirement to regularly visit the Berlin office. This position offers an annual starting salary of EUR 70,000 for Associate Researcher or EUR 84,000 for Researcher (40 hours/week if working from Germany), depending on your level of experience.We offer an initial 2-year contract, with the possibility of extension depending on organizational resources and performance.
