Join the JPMorganChase Corporate Legal team that supports the Firm’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and corporate sustainability efforts across the globe in a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.
As an ESG & Sustainability Attorney in Corporate Legal, you will be part of a team that advises the Sustainability team in the Firm’s Corporate Responsibility Department, as well as other corporate functions like the ESG Controllers and Operational Sustainability, on disclosures, regulatory developments, carbon markets, and legal risk. You will develop subject matter expertise to provide legal advice and guidance on a range of ESG issues potentially impacting the firm, ranging from climate risk to human rights. This is a rapidly evolving area of the law, and well-suited to attorneys who can adapt to change, think strategically, and work collaboratively.
Job Responsibilities
- Review the Firm’s ESG, climate, and sustainability public disclosures, including the firmwide Sustainability Report and mandatory TCFD/ISSB reports in non-U.S. jurisdictions, as well as other ESG-related external communications (press releases, website content, sponsored content).
- Support the development and implementation of policies, procedures and controls related to ESG activities, including the Firm’s American Dream Initiative (to expand local economic opportunity in the U.S.).
- Collaborate with other legal teams, Regulatory Affairs, Government Relations, Risk and others as needed on ESG topics, including new and contemplated statutes and regulations.
- Review and negotiate carbon credit purchase agreements, working with the Operational Sustainability team.
- Monitor, analyze, and communicate to senior leaders about legal developments with potential impact to the firm and its clients, including in sustainability, climate, human rights and other ESG topics.
- Develop and utilize AI solutions to streamline processes and provide more efficient legal advice to Firm clients.
- Manage and support the ESG Practice Group’s knowledge resources and programming, including regular meetings and CLEs.
Job Requirements
- Minimum of two years’ experience, whether in law firms or at corporations.
- Law degree and membership in jurisdictional organization JD or educational equivalent required. Attorney candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment.
- Enthusiastic, “can-do” attitude is critical to role, as well as a strong desire to work closely with Corporate teams on Sustainability and ESG topics.
- Excellent reviewing skills, strong attention to detail.
- Polished verbal and written communication skills (English language); ability to effectively communicate legal issues to senior managers or executives; and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently on projects.
- Team player, confident and proactive.
