Job Overview
The Quality, Health, Safety, & Environment (QHSE) Assistant is responsible for continuous improvements in the quality of products and services while protecting the employees and the environment as necessary for business success not only to meet regulatory requirements but also for improved productivity and profitability to include: Accident Reporting and Investigation, Workers’ Compensation Claim Management, Emergency Action/Response Plan, Fire Prevention, Forklift Operation, Lockout/Tag-Out, Personal Protective Equipment, Safety Training, Record Keeping and Posting Requirements, and Facility and Field Inspections. The QHSE Assistant works with the Health, Safety, & Environment (HSE) Coordinator to accurately assess the risks it faces and implement policies that reduce workplace accidents and boost the quality of products and services. The QHSE Assistant is responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere at all times for SESA Fleet Services internal employees and external program participants.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintain records, permits, and emergency plans.
- Make recommendations for improving policies and procedures.
- Perform inspections across all remote worksites; prepare after action reports.
- Process documentation relating to any accidents/injuries.
- Maintain and update records related to: OSHA, HAZMAT, DOT, etc.
- In collaboration with department leadership, supports the development and facilitation of safety training using visual tools for record keeping, work site surveillance and inspection, and hazard mitigation records (i.e. lock-out tag-out, confined space, permit required confined space, CPR/AED/1st Aid, cargo, and securement, etc.).
- Writes and presents reports such as incident reports, research findings, special hazards reports, safety notifications, email notifications etc.
- Assist in planning, developing and revising procedures, evaluating personal protective equipment, critiquing safety drill responses, on-site response to medical emergencies, and organizing and scheduling training exercises and drills.
- Schedule and conduct safety meetings for departments and create debriefing reports post meetings.
- Conduct unannounced/announced field audits and annual inspections.
- Perform job task evaluations to determine adequacy of safety controls and provide recommendations.
- Create correspondence to communicate and address safety issues, concerns, requests, questions, etc.
- Upload, update, and manage safety recommendations in the company’s resource management system.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Registration as a Certified Safety Professional or similar form of licensure as a safety officer.
Preferred:
- Associates Degree preferred but not required with comparable experience in Safety.
License/Certification
Required:
o Valid driver’s license – Class C.
o Willing to submit to a pre-employment, criminal and driving background review.
o Ability to pass a physical.
Preferred:
o CDL – Class A or Class B.
o No preventable accidents, license suspensions, or other moving violations in the past two (2) years.
o No alcohol-related convictions within the last ten (10) years.
Work Experience
Required:
- Understanding of federal, state and local safety requirements, including OSHA.
Preferred:
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including public speaking and presentation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines.
Additional Skills
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Availability on weekends and holidays.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Pass drug screening.
- 21 years or older, based on bona fide insurance requirement.
Travel
- Ability to drive interstate.
- Ability for overnight stays, and or extended stays, based on job demands.
Equipment
· Work is generally performed in a warehouse environment.
· Noise level in the work environment is moderate to occasionally loud.

Mental and Physical Demands
Maintain emotional control under stress; work with interruptions and deadlines; walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; occasional: lifting/carrying, pulling/pushing 10-25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Environmental Factors
Occasional exposure to: Occasional expose to weather related conditions when working in outside environment/neighborhoods and events.
