The Pathology Fellow performs a variety of assigned pathology activities, while working toward a graduate degree. This is a one-year position renewable for a maximum of two years. This position reports to the Director of Disease Investigations.WHAT YOU WILL DO
Conducts and oversees gross necropsy examinations and tissue sample collections.
Interprets clinical cytology specimens and laboratory analysis findings.
Prepares reports and presents findings to clinical veterinarians.
Keeps abreast of research and published literature.
Presents documentation in the form of an external presentation or publication.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The fellowship offers unique opportunities for development of diagnostic skills in anatomic pathology of nondomestic species and investigative experience using pathology and molecular diagnostics for wildlife health. Primary responsibilities of the fellow will include gross and histopathologic examinations of free-ranging California wildlife as well as record keeping and communication with stakeholders on mortality investigations. Other expectations and opportunities include necropsy on a variety of zoo-based species, mentorship of pathology residents and veterinary student externs, and collaborative research with clinical veterinarians and conservation scientists. This position requires possession of current rabies and measles vaccination, and satisfactory completion of a Tuberculosis (TB) Test.

JOB EXPERIENCE
Residency in veterinary pathology
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
D.V.M. or equivalent degree
Eligibility or certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Anatomic pathology through gross and microscopic examination
Use word processing and database systems
