At The Vegetarian Butcher Collective, we are building a future‑proof food system. Doing so requires clear choices, strong content expertise and close collaboration, within our organisation and beyond. That is why we are looking for a Sustainability & Public Affairs Manager (temporary role) to help translate our sustainability ambitions into concrete action.
This role is suited for someone who enjoys contributing to strategy as much as organising and delivering the work needed to make that strategy real.
What you will do
In this role, you operate at the intersection of sustainability, external engagement and internal execution. You actively contribute to the further development of our sustainability strategy and play a key role in the day‑to‑day reality of data, reporting and stakeholder expectations.
Sustainability & strategy
- Contribute to the development and implementation of our sustainability strategy.
- Prepare decision‑making and progress updates for internal forums such as the Sustainability Steering Committee.
- Identify developments in sustainability, regulation and value‑chain expectations and translate these into concrete actions for the organisation.
Reporting, data & compliance
- Coordinate and complete sustainability reporting and platforms, including CSRD/JBS, Envizi, EcoVadis and Sedex.
- Coordinate, finalise and follow up on the B Corp certification on an annual basis.
- Coordinate the annual Impact Report, from data collection to internal alignment and external delivery.
- Structure, validate and safeguard sustainability data in close collaboration with colleagues across departments.
- Support commercial teams and customers by providing timely and complete sustainability information for tenders and customer platforms.
External affairs & collaboration
- Support our external affairs activities in the Netherlands and at EU level.
- Actively contribute to dossiers related to system change and regulation, including meat denomination.
- Work with NGOs, coalitions and industry organisations (e.g. ProVeg, Green Protein Alliance, TAPP, EAPF).
- Prepare and attend meetings with policymakers, value‑chain partners and other external stakeholders.
- Maintain monthly alignment with JBS on sustainability developments and requirements.
Communication & positioning
- Work closely with Marketing and PR to ensure sustainability topics are communicated clearly and credibly, PR is used as a lobby instrument.
- Prepare and deliver customer presentations following publication of the Impact Report.
- Contribute to a consistent and well‑substantiated external sustainability position for The Vegetarian Butcher Collective.
Who we are looking for:
- We are looking for someone who takes ownership, is curious and enjoys building things. You are comfortable in a role that brings content, people and processes together.
- You have strong communication skills and can work effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- You are able to move projects forward without formal line management responsibility.
- You work in a structured and accurate way, particularly when dealing with data, reporting and deadlines.
- You have a strong intrinsic motivation for sustainability and are keen to deepen your technical and content‑related knowledge.
- You have several years of relevant work experience and are ready for a role with clear responsibility and visible impact.
- You are fluent in both Dutch and English, spoken and written.
What we offer:
- A temporary role (until the end of the year) with real substantive influence on how sustainability is shaped and embedded within our organisation.
- Close collaboration with the Head of Sustainability & External Affairs and exposure at management level.
- A growing organisation that values learning, critical thinking and continuous improvement.
- Space to build, improve and further develop your expertise.
- An open culture with short lines and engaged colleagues.
- Competitive employment conditions and hybrid working.
