JOB OVERVIEW
The Substation Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the Project Manager (PM) and site leadership team in the safe, highâquality, and efficient execution of substation and high-voltage (HV) construction projects. The APM assists with project administration, scheduling, forecasting, procurement, subcontract management, financial controls, document management, and client communication.
This role is designed to help develop the next generation of Project Managers and is primarily responsible for Site Project Manager administrative tasks.
This position reports to the Project Manager. The APM supports and coordinates with the Trade Superintendents, Project Engineer, Field Engineers, Site Admin, Site Safety Manager, and Site Quality Manager, and works closely with the Construction Manager on schedule, cost, equipment, and staffing. The Construction Manager is responsible for all field execution, including civil, structural, electrical, and commissioning activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
PreâMobilization / LNTP Phase
- Manage LNTP administrative requirements, including permits, documentation, and internal approvals prior to mobilization.
- Support early client coordination by preparing materials, tracking action items, and communicating updates.
- Assist with purchase orders, subcontractor setup, and scope reviews in coordination with Procurement, Field Engineers, and the PM.
- Support budget development and execution planning by gathering cost inputs and coordinating crossâfunctional inputs.
- Review contracts, scopes, and drawings to ensure alignment across technical, financial, and execution plans.
Construction
- Prepare and manage subcontract requisitions, purchase orders, and material quantities in alignment with schedule, BOMs, and budgets.
- Draft and review subcontract agreements to ensure clear scope, schedule, and safety requirements.
- Facilitate preâtask planning, first article builds, and coordination of quality, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Support site quality documentation and compliance efforts, including IRA domestic content and labor requirements.
- Coordinate with site leadership, vendors, and subcontractors to support smooth execution and turnover.
Meetings & Reporting
- Prepare agendas, collect field data, and support weekly and monthly client and internal project meetings.
- Assist with project reporting by analyzing schedule, cost, quality, and safety performance.
- Support development of threeâweek lookâahead schedules in coordination with construction leadership.
- Participate in cost reviews, subcontractor performance tracking, invoice validation, and variance resolution.
- Support tracking and reporting of schedule impacts related to ERCOT or interconnection constraints.
Engineering
- Support engineering reviews to identify constructability issues and ensure alignment between design and field execution.
- Ensure timely processing, tracking, and logging of submittals and transmittals across engineering, vendors, and clients.
Financial / Project Controls
- Assist with cost forecasting, WIP reporting, and tracking of percentâcomplete and project variances.
- Support change order development by documenting scope, pricing, and schedule impacts.
- Assist with project notices and schedule updates based on field progress and identified risks.
Approvals
- Perform variable cost calculations to support billing, forecasting, and cost control.
- Review and validate variableâcost invoices to ensure alignment with contract terms and field progress.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 4–7+ years of construction experience; Medium/High Voltage substation, T&D , utilityâscale solar, BESS, HV, industrial, commercial construction or heavy civil experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred but not required with equivalent experience).
- Experience with selfâperform construction environments strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with project management and construction software (P6, Procore, Bluebeam, Vista/CMiC, MS Office, etc.).
- Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work onâsite 100% (temporary relocation to project community required)

- Salary $120,000 - $160,000 annually, dependent on experience, qualifications, and competencies
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must comply with client safety requirements (e.g., clean-shaven, long sleeves, steel-toe boots).
- Must pass a physical exam if required.
- Able to:
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, and stairways.
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work at heights or in confined spaces (e.g., towers, vessels, excavations).
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (Use assistance for heavier loads).
- Stand or walk for extended periods on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel).
- Must be able to wear a respirator and other PPE when required.
