Job Overview
This opportunity is for a flexible and self-motivated individual that is willing to learn and grow as part of a team while supporting complex environmental litigation matters for projects within the Sediment and Risk Assessment (SRA) and Remediation (REM) service lines at EHS Support. In this position, you will be joining a high-performance team of risk assessors, toxicologists, ecologists, scientists, and engineers that is focused on providing high-quality technical and strategic solutions to a variety of clients. Your primary responsibilities in this position will include supporting environmental litigation cases and settlement activities for determination of liability, apportionment, cost allocation, and cost recovery, with potential to serve as a testifying expert witness.
Essential Responsibilities
- Serve as a testifying expert witness in complex environmental litigation matters.
- Lead the technical evaluation of disputed environmental issues, including source identification, timing of releases, contaminant fate and transport, necessity and appropriateness of response actions and cleanup costs, PRP allocation, risk assessment, data validation, and regulatory compliance under state, federal, and international programs.
- Direct and oversee technical and forensic analyses supporting expert testimony.
- Manage and synthesize large document productions and technical records.
- Develop and defend expert opinions in written reports, depositions, and trial testimony.
- Implement and uphold rigorous quality assurance and quality control processes to ensure methodological defensibility and high‑quality technical deliverables.
- Interface directly with legal counsel and environmental clients, providing strategic technical support and building trusted advisory relationships.
- Remain current on industry trends, regulatory developments, and emerging technical issues.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring timely delivery, technical excellence, and adherence to budgetary constraints.
Specific Experience and Skills
- 15+ years of consulting experience supporting complex environmental litigation cases and settlement activities, with a proven track record of successful outcomes.
- Expert knowledge of regulatory requirements for remedial investigation and risk assessment (human health and ecological risk assessment for soil, sediment, surface water, and food web exposures) under state, federal, and international environmental programs.
- Demonstrated expertise in site investigation, characterization, and remediation supporting regulatory compliance and litigation matters.
- Expert-level environmental forensics experience addressing contaminant sources in multiple environmental media.
- Strong preference for experience with high‑risk contaminants of concern, including:
- PFAS (per‑ and polyfluoroalkyl substances)
- Other emerging and legacy contaminants of concern, such as PAHs, PCBs, dioxins/furans, metals, mercury, pesticides, and chlorinated solvents
- Demonstrated expertise in the review, analysis, and interpretation of complex scientific datasets, including:
- Historical document research
- Aerial photography interpretation
- Geospatial, spatial, and temporal statistical analyses
- Proven technical leadership and project management skills, with experience mentoring and developing staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly to legal and non‑technical audiences.
- Exceptional interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Education and Licenses
- M.S. or Ph.D. in environmental science, geology, hydrogeology, engineering or a related discipline.
