This position is located in Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site, in the Facilities Management Division.
Major Duties
As a Preservation Helper, you will perform the following duties: Assists with preserving masonry including chiseling, mortar analysis and mixing, and repointing of historic features using hand tools. Assists with preserving and restoring wood crafted items, including those with special finishes and stains. Assists with historic preservation of roofing to include repairs to flashing, shingles, and architectural elements while working on scaffolding. Assists with preserving and restoring historic painted surfaces, including those with special finishes and colors. Assists with preserving carpets to include structural framing, reconstruction of windows and doors, and finishing carpets using a variety of power and hand tools. Operates a light truck to move and transport people and material to and from worksite. Sweeps and cleans work areas and tools.
