Position Title: Geothermal Engineering Co-op Student
Reports To: Geothermal Engineer
Location: Toronto, ON (with site visits in nearby cities, including Kitchener/Waterloo)
Term: Summer Co-op / Internship (4 months)
Job Summary
The Engineering Co-op Student will support the Geothermal project team by assisting with site observations, field documentation, and design activities. This role provides hands-on exposure to geothermal system construction sites and engineering, working under the supervision of geothermal engineers and designers. The student will contribute to site observation reports, drawing updates, and general project coordination tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Site Observations & Field Support
- Assist with site visits and observations for open loop and closed loop geothermal systems under the direction of a supervising engineer
- Document site conditions through field notes, photographs, sketches and project specifications
- Compile site observation reports, including organizing photos and observations
- Compare observed site conditions against issued drawings and specifications
- Communicate observed issues or discrepancies to the supervising engineer
CAD & Technical Support
- Assist with preparing and updating geothermal system design CAD drawings
- Convert redlines, sketches, and notes into AutoCAD (and/or Revit) drawings
- Support the preparation of plans, details, and schematic layouts
- Assist with drawing package assembly and organization
- Follow company and client CAD standards and drafting conventions
Geothermal Team Support
- Assist engineers with data entry, document control, and file organization
- Coordinate with team members to obtain required information
- Perform other technical or administrative tasks as assigned, appropriate to experience level
Qualifications & Skills
Required
- A vehicle and valid Driver’s License are required to conduct site visits
- Currently enrolled in a Geological Engineering co-op program
- Basic working knowledge of AutoCAD (Revit is an asset)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to clearly document observations and follow instructions
- Willingness to attend construction sites and work in field environments
- Ability to work independently from a home office
Preferred / Asset
- Previous exposure to construction sites or field work
- Familiarity with engineering drawings and basic construction terminology
- Experience preparing field notes or technical documentation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
Working Conditions
This position includes a combination of office-based work and site visits. Site work may involve walking in various site conditions including mud and exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Typical work hours align with standard business hours, with expected flexibility to accommodate site visits.
