Purpose of the Job:
FS India Solar Ventures Private Limited is seeking a Trade Compliance Specialist for its Chennai location. This role is responsible for managing and updating master data products, technologies, and software (product description, HSN codes, Export Control codes), support Free Trade Agreements and EPCG scheme, handle responses to Customs inquiries with product information required for master data management and entries. Measure and audit internal operations end-to-end and brokers’ performance, address deviations and initiate corrective actions as needed.
Responsibilities
- Analyse products’ information and local regulations and laws to determine the correct customs tariff codes in a defined timeline.
- Secure that import and export of products and components comply with applicable regulations
- Support classifications with justifications as per General Interpretative Rules
- Serve as liaison with internal and external parties to address any Trade Compliance-related inquiries
- Maintain classification data in the systems and make suggestions regarding improvements to increase the data quality and performance
- Provide team internal trainings and support for processes and systems as well as a knowledge transfer among team members. Ensure cross-functional communication and alignment for processes and internal controls
- Assist in maintaining policies and procedures for Trade Compliance
- Support system implementations and process changes to guarantee a smooth transition
- Performing internal audits and define approval processes.
- Manage customs brokers
- Master Data support to external Customs clearance brokers in daily operations
- Lead /define and follow-up corrections and activities to address compliance deviations found
- Support Customs audits and investigations
- Support daily import and export activity
- Analyse import duty optimization and FTA activity in depth and propose improvements
Education and Qualifications
- College degree in Logistics, International Business, Law, or Customs
- 5 to 8 years of professional experience in Trade Compliance
- Strong knowledge of HSN classifications
- Strong understanding of Indian Customs laws and regulations
- Detail oriented
- Ability to organize and prioritize work in a dynamic and complex environment to manage workload, meet deadlines, and support daily activities
- Able to work well individually and as part of a team
- Actively improves the skills of others through training, coaching, and mentoring
- Self-motivated, take initiatives to change process and procedures
- Skills to build a strong network and relationships with other departments
- Knowledge of EPCG, advance authorization, duty drawback, SVB, BIS, among others
- Awareness of various Import-Export schemes in India
- Excellent presentation, problem-solving, negotiation, and communication skills
