Purpose
CEEW seeks to hire a Research Intern to expand its ongoing research work on battery storage technologies, battery safety, as well as regulations and standards governing the sector. The candidate will be primarily responsible for collecting and analysing data and do preliminary analysis related to the a) current and upcoming technologies affecting the safety of batteries, b) global and Indian regulations that govern battery safety, and c) battery safety-related trends in the electric mobility and stationary storage sectors. Job Duties and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will assist fellow researchers in undertaking robust quantitative and qualitative analysis. Outlined below are the key duties and responsibilities of this role.
Research
- Carry out a relevant literature review to support the identification of research questions, approaches and methodologies for analysing the evolving market risks and opportunities in existing/upcoming battery technologies.
- Review recent reports, journal papers, and other relevant research publications on battery technologies, battery materials and battery safety undertaken at the national and international level.
- Collect and analyse data relating to battery safety statistics globally.
- Analyse battery storage deployment and battery fire incidents at the state, national and international level.
- Conduct research on the regulations and standards governing battery storage, as well as the institutions responsible for drafting and implementing these regulations.
- Understand the testing and certification process for battery storage in India and globally.
Programme Assistance
- Assist with project implementation, including preparing presentations, factsheets and other communication material.
- Contribute to reports and other research products as part of the research team.
- Accompany team members for meetings with other stakeholders; prepare minutes of the meetings and assist with relevant follow up.
- Assist in organising webinars, workshops and roundtables as part of the team’s outreach activities.
- Participate in various team meetings.
Selection Criteria
Education
- Enrolled in or completed Master’s degree/Bachelor’s degree with a specialisation in electrical/ chemical/ materials/ mechanical engineering, renewable energy technologies, chemistry or related fields.
- Previous internships in any related fields would be an advantage.
Main Skills
- Must have strong research skills – capability to carry out literature review is a key requisite, familiarity with research methods is desirable.
- Familiarity with public policy research techniques and tools is desirable
- Sound understanding of battery storage technologies (particularly lithium-ion) and their policy and regulatory environment
- Excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to work on multi-disciplinary projects
- Experience in dealing with stakeholders (industry, academic, government etc.) preferred
