Summary
This position is located in Steamtown National Historic Site, in the Rail Operations Division. Temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours in a service year may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. The typical seasonal period is April to October but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2026.
Major Duties
Duties include: Responsible for planning, developing, and assisting management in executing a safety program for the park. Performs a variety of recurring assignments to control or eliminate unsafe physical conditions, equipment and machine hazards, and risk in human performance which may cause injury to persons or damage property. Provides and interprets safety regulations and standards applicable to all park activity. Serves as the primary advisor and consultant to park management and the park safety and wellness committee regarding the park safety program. Conducts safety inspections and provide informal safety training to new and current employees. Physical demands: A significant amount of work is performed in an office environment. However, performance of inspections and investigations of mishaps requires frequent physical exertion such as frequent walking and hiking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces, crouching, climbing, stooping, climbing ladders, working on roofs, crawling under buildings and in attics, etc. There may be need for the incumbent to lift and carry moderately heavy objects. the use of personal protective equipment (hard hat, steel-toed boots, gloves, eye googles, and respirators) may be required due to exposure to hazardous occupational environments. Work environment: Most work is performed in an office, on-site inspections involve exposure to hazardous chemicals, moving equipment, heights, closed spaces, high noise levels, temperature extremes, fumes, and smoke. A fail degree of potential risk is involved. The incumbent is required to wear protective clothing/equipment at times.
