Environmental Engineer – Industrial Wastewater

Salary: $90,000 – $120,000 DOE + 15–20% Bonus Potential
Travel: 10–15%
We are seeking a licensed Environmental Engineer to serve as a technical leader in the evaluation, design, permitting, and compliance of complex industrial wastewater pretreatment and treatment systems.
This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a client-facing environment, exercises independent engineering judgment, and enjoys solving technically challenging wastewater problems.
You will support industrial facilities and consulting projects involving complex wastewater streams and regulatory frameworks — while mentoring junior staff and influencing project direction.
What You’ll Do
- Lead process evaluation, selection, and design of industrial wastewater treatment and pretreatment systems
- Develop and review Basis of Design (BOD) documents, hydraulic/process calculations, PFDs, and equipment specifications
- Troubleshoot underperforming systems and implement corrective action plans
- Prepare capital cost estimates, O&M evaluations, and lifecycle cost analyses
- Serve as a technical lead during regulatory inspections, audits, and enforcement actions
- Review laboratory data and establish treatment performance metrics and compliance targets
- Contribute technical expertise to proposals, feasibility studies, and regulatory strategy development
- Mentor junior engineers and review technical deliverables
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering
- Active PE License in at least one U.S. state (South Carolina preferred)
- 3–10+ years of industrial wastewater design experience
- 3–5+ years of project management experience
Technical Expertise
- Demonstrated experience leading wastewater treatment design and permitting efforts
- Strong knowledge of industrial pretreatment regulations and POTW coordination
- Proven ability to apply independent engineering judgment and manage technical risk
- Experience troubleshooting and optimizing treatment systems
- Strong technical writing and client communication skills
Work Environment
This position includes a combination of office and field work at active industrial facilities. Travel (10–15%) may be required for site assessments, construction support, and regulator meetings. Ability to access treatment systems and comply with PPE and safety protocols is required.
