*This regular part-time position is scheduled up to 30 hours per week, including weekends, holidays, and special events at the museum. May also work at other JIA retail locations.

Summary:
The Gift Shop Guest Service team member represents Jekyll Island and supports a welcoming and engaging visitor experience at Mosaic, the Jekyll Island Museum. This part-time, year-round position is responsible for delivering high-quality customer service, handling retail sales transactions, and assisting with shop maintenance. This role requires flexibility in scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and a strong commitment to hospitality. Hours and days will vary.
Description:
- Provide excellent customer service to all guests, including answering questions and offering assistance in a friendly and professional manner.
- Operate point of sale (POS) system for merchandise sales, admissions, tours, donations, etc.
- Accurately handle monetary transactions, including balancing drawers and preparing deposit documentation.
- Participate in job-specific training to enhance guest service and sales knowledge.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing sales area, including restocking and straightening merchandise.
- Provide general information about Jekyll Island and the Museum to guests.
- Adhere to Jekyll Island Authority (JIA) policies and safety protocols.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
- Assist with special projects and events as assigned.
- May travel between JIA-operated gift shops or offices to complete job duties.
- Perform light cleaning tasks in shared areas
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Previous retail, sales, or customer service experience preferred, but not required. Equivalent combinations of education, training, or transferable experience will be considered.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with guests and team members.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
- Must have reliable and consistent means of transportation to and from the work site.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn and use POS systems.
- Flexible availability, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Prior experience working in a museum gift shop or tourism-based setting is a plus.
Licenses/Background Checks:
- A valid driver’s license is required for tasks that involve travel between JIA-operated locations while on duty, whether using a state-issued or personal vehicle. All drivers must comply with Georgia state laws.
- Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a criminal background check.
- Credit check required for all positions assigned to handle cash transactions regularly.
Physical/Sensory Demands:
- Exert up to 35 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
- Exert up to 15 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
- Spend more than 50% of the typical workday walking, standing, reaching, balancing (including standing on 1–2 steps), using hands and fingers to handle items such as money or merchandise, and performing repetitive wrist, hand, and finger motions.
- Spend 25–50% of the day stooping (bending at the waist) and lifting.
- Spend less than 25% of the day kneeling, crouching, sitting, pushing or pulling.
- Spend more than 50% of the day verbally communicating (talking and hearing).
- Use close vision regularly to operate POS systems, read labels, and count money.
Working Environment:
- Work primarily takes place indoors in a climate-controlled retail space.
- Regular exposure to outdoor conditions (e.g. walking between buildings or locations). This may include extreme heat, rain, cold temperatures and other weather conditions.
- Noise level may vary normal to loud, depending on visitor traffic and special events.
- Occasional exposure to hazards such as moving vehicles.
