Summary
The typical seasonal period for this position is May-November but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2026 NOTE: OPM has identified this position as eligible for an exception to the typical 1039 hour season. This exception allows up to 1560 hours which may extend the season dates noted above. See additional information section for details.
Major Duties
Prepares surfaces by scraping, wire brushing, masking, spackling and sanding surfaces. Cleans, degreases and removes oil or wax build up. Removes scale, rust, dirt and old paint from surfaces so that coating materials will adhere properly. Obtains supplies and equipment, sets up ladders and scaffolds, cover items with drop cloths and tape, and performs all necessary preparatory work. Mixes, thins, blends, matches, tints, and tones coating materials following specific oral and written directives. Applies coating materials such as primers, paints, varnishes, shellacs, using standard application techniques and ensures that coating finish meets surface protection requirements. Uses tools such as brushes, rollers, spray guns, graining devices, compressors, as well as common hand and power tools to do the work. Maintains records and documents actions. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing.
