Summary
The position is located at Petersburg National Battlefield. As a Laborer, you will perform trail maintenance, including repairing and replacing bridge components, maintaining water drainage features, and restoring gravel surfaces. Building maintenance duties range from custodial services in public facilities to performing minor repairs. You may also assist with larger projects related to park improvements, storm damage cleanup, and the preservation of historic structures.
Major Duties
This is an open continuous vacancy announcement. Applicants will be referred periodically throughout the announcement period. Final application disposition will be completed once all positions have been filled or the announcement reaches the end of the open period stated in the announcement. The first cut-off date is 11:59 pm (EST), Monday, December 29, 2025. The following duties are performed: Operate power equipment such as lawn mowers, snow blowers, and hand tools (e.g., shovels, rakes, chainsaws) to maintain park grounds, buildings, roads, and trails. Load and unload supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, and dollies; move furniture and equipment as needed. Perform grounds maintenance tasks including raking and watering lawns, trimming trees and shrubs, picking up litter, and cleaning fire pits. Assist with minor construction and repair by digging ditches, mixing and pouring concrete or asphalt, and filling potholes. Provide janitorial support for park buildings when the primary janitor is unavailable, including cleaning and maintaining restrooms and public areas.
