McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Environmental Professional with experience in contaminated sites and brownfield redevelopment to join our growing Environmental team in Edmonton. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a balance of field and office work, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is motivated by the opportunity to contribute to meaningful environmental projects across Alberta and Western Canada.
You’ll work alongside a multidisciplinary team of environmental scientists, engineers, hydrogeologists, and planners to support site assessments, remediation programs, and brownfield redevelopment initiatives for both public and private sector clients. What You’ll Do
Project coordination including set-up of field programs, preparation for project work, health and safety plans, budget and schedule management and subcontractor management.
Lead and support Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and Remediation projects (including groundwater monitoring well installation/sampling and hydraulic conductivity testing) in accordance with provincial and federal guidelines.
Completing and assisting in data collection, compilation, interpretation and reporting including recommendations on next steps.
Support contaminated sites projects involving risk assessments, remediation planning, and regulatory submissions.
Coordinate with internal and external clients, contractors, laboratories, and internal service teams to ensure smooth project execution.
Mentor junior staff and contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture.
Participate in and support business development activities (ie. Proposal support) as your consulting skills grow.
What You’ll Bring
Degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline.
5–10 years of experience in contaminated sites, brownfield redevelopment, or environmental consulting.
Eligibility for or current registration as a P.Ag., P.Biol., P.Chem., P.Geo., or P.Eng. (or equivalent).
Strong understanding of Alberta’s regulatory framework, including the Alberta Tier 1 and Tier 2 Guidelines, and experience preparing regulatory submissions.
Demonstrated experience conducting and leading ESAs, groundwater and soil sampling, and remediation programs.
Strong technical writing skills and experience preparing environmental reports.
Experience in supporting proposals to obtain additional work and work scopes.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced consulting environment.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to complete field work as required.
What Can We Offer You?
The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $125,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
