Renewable Energy | Independent Power Producer (IPP) | Infrastructure & Project Finance

Introduction

Our client, a SADC-focused Independent Power Producer (IPP), develops, finances, owns, and operates renewable energy power projects across Africa. With a growing portfolio spanning utility-scale and commercial & industrial energy projects, they are offering an exciting opportunity for a Junior Accountant to join their expanding finance team.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional with strong bookkeeping experience and at least 3 years post-qualification experience, looking to gain exposure to group accounting, renewable energy project finance, and cross-border operations.

The successful candidate will support finance functions across operating companies, investment holding entities, and Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) managing renewable energy assets in South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia.

The Role

Reporting to the Financial Manager / Financial Controller, the Junior Accountant will support day-to-day accounting, reporting, and compliance activities while developing strong analytical and financial management skills.

This position offers exposure to:

Group accounting structures
Renewable energy SPVs and project finance environments
Recourse and non-recourse debt structures
Cross-border transactions
Senior management and external stakeholders

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Maintain accurate bookkeeping and accounting records across group entities
Process journals, accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations
Assist with preparation of monthly management accounts
Maintain general ledger, debtors, creditors, and bank reconciliations
Process and reconcile intercompany transactions and loan accounts
Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
Assist with VAT and tax compliance submissions and reconciliations
Support audit processes and liaise with external auditors and tax advisors
Prepare financial reports for management and lenders
Maintain strong financial controls and supporting documentation
Invoice clients and manage billing processes
Load and process payments across multiple entities

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements

Relevant Accounting qualification (BCom Accounting / Financial Accounting / CIMA / completed CA(SA) articles or equivalent)
Minimum 3 years post-qualification accounting experience
Strong bookkeeping and general ledger experience
Exposure to group accounting and intercompany transactions
Understanding of intercompany loans and consolidations
Experience using SAGE, Xero, or similar accounting systems
Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency
Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial controls
Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal)
High attention to detail and strong organisational ability
Ability to work independently within a collaborative finance team
Eagerness to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment
