Job Purpose
The Deputy Chief Environmental Officer is responsible for planning, implementation, monitoring, and continual improvement of environmental management systems at project and/or organizational level to ensure compliance with statutory environmental regulations, client requirements, and sustainability commitments, while minimizing environmental impacts.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist in development and implementation of the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for projects.
- Ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws, rules, and guidelines (MoEF&CC, SPCB, CPCB, EIA conditions, consent conditions, etc.).
- Monitor compliance with Environmental Clearance (EC), Consent to Establish/Operate, and other statutory approvals.
- Maintain statutory environmental records and registers.
- Oversee environmental monitoring related to air quality, water quality, noise, vibration, soil, and waste.
- Ensure implementation of mitigation measures for identified environmental impacts.
- Supervise operation of pollution control systems such as STP/ETP, dust suppression, noise barriers, oil traps, etc.
- Review monitoring data and initiate corrective actions where limits are exceeded.
- Ensure proper management of solid waste, hazardous waste, e?waste, construction & demolition waste.
- Promote waste minimization, reuse, and recycling practices.
- Monitor resource consumption including water, fuel, and energy and promote conservation initiatives.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, consultants, laboratories, and auditors on environmental matters.
- Support inspections by statutory bodies and ensure timely compliance and reporting.
- Coordinate with design, construction, and operations teams to integrate environmental controls.
- Conduct internal environmental audits and site inspections.
- Assist during external, client, and statutory environmental audits.
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual environmental reports to management and authorities.
- Track and ensure closure of environmental non?conformities and observations.
Minimum Qualification
The Dy. Chief Environmental Officer shall possess a minimum qualification in any one of the following from a Government?recognized institution:
- BE / BTech / MTech in Environmental Engineering
- MSc in Environmental Sciences
Experience Requirement
- Minimum 12 years of total professional experience.
- Out of which minimum 5 years shall be in similar environmental management work, preferably in large infrastructure / rail / bullet train / metro projects.
