DescriptionWSP has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Environmental Consultant to join our large and growing team of environmental professionals in India. The role will be based within the UK Environmental Management and Assessment (EMA) team, which is part of our wider Planning and Consents business.
The role would suit an enthusiastic individual looking to deliver environmental elements of engineering projects, within a wide range of sectors including transmission & distribution, rail, highways, energy and commercial / residential, from feasibility through to planning, including detailed design and construction.
You will have responsibility for coordinating projects, including tasks relating to bidding, project team management, project delivery, and financial management.
You will be joining a well-respected and leading global environmental consulting team with a wide range of clients across different markets and sectors including national and local government, industrial, commercial and scientific sectors. You will be integrated into the UK EMA team and will be supported in your professional career development with opportunities for training, mentoring and chartership.
ResponsibilitiesThe successful applicant would be responsible for many of the following:
Working with, and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams to deliver environmental inputs into projects
Preparing and reviewing written input into technical environmental reports
Undertaking desk-based environmental assessments
Providing environmental advice and support to clients, project managers and colleagues
Driving performance improvement and career advancement opportunities across team
Providing oversight to maintain high technical quality in team deliverables
Monitor utilisation of team members and liaise with UK teams to bring in works
Supporting senior colleagues with ad-hoc project tasks
Preparation of material supporting marketing and bidding
Leading tasks relating to recruitment, project team management, project delivery, financial management
Be a ‘go to’ person within the team, supporting others in problem solving and achieving team and business goals
QualificationsKey Competencies / Skills
Essential Skills
We would love to hear from you if you have these essential skills:
Have an appropriate academic qualification in an environmental, or related discipline (Bachelor's degree or Preferably Master's degree)
Have at least 15+ years’ experience in environmental consultancy, with Environmental Impact Assessment experience
Thorough knowledge of a diverse range of environmental issues
- Strategic Environmental Assessment and/or Environmental and Social Impact Assessment experience
Should be able to explain and present highly technical subject matters in a way that is logical and understandable – using plain English
Are ambitious and appreciate the responsibilities associated with undertaking work in highly technical subject areas
Are able to demonstrate a sensible and proactive approach to project work
Proven track record of line management experience, developing and upskilling internal teams
Have strong communication skills including fluent written and verbal English with report writing skills, such as experience of Environmental Impact Assessment chapters/report writing
Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical data and prepare clear reports.
Have good collaborative working skills and experience of interfacing with other disciplines and/or diverse stakeholders
Are a good team worker with excellent and demonstrable attention to detail
Are confident and highly motivated, with good and proactive communication skills and the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
Are willing to help support, mentor and develop other team members; as we build the team, we would like our experienced hire to mentor, train and manage new team members
Desirable Skills
Knowledge of the UK planning process and UK environmental legislations
UK experience and/or UK Professional Memberships in the environmental sector will be an added advantage
Knowledge on Environmental Assessment process for on-shore and off-shore wind energy projects and infrastructure projects
Experience working for a global environmental consultancy
Energy sector and/or highways experience, particularly for large-scale infrastructure projects
Experience of producing socio-economic inputs for Environmental Impact Assessments
Demonstrated leadership capabilities and experience managing project teams including delivering projects to time and on budget and resource management.
