DescriptionArgus Consulting is seeking a Lead/Senior Environmental Engineer to join our Overland Park, Kansas headquarters. This role is ideal for a seasoned environmental professional who thrives at the intersection of technical excellence, client leadership, and business growth—someone who can lead complex environmental programs while mentoring teams and strengthening long-term client partnerships.
This position blends deep technical expertise with strategic leadership. You’ll serve as a subject matter expert across environmental compliance programs, lead project execution, support business development, and act as a trusted advisor to clients and regulatory agencies.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and oversee environmental engineering activities to ensure regulatory compliance, technical quality, and operational efficiency.
- Serve as the primary environmental contact for project managers, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Support business development efforts by preparing proposals, developing technical scopes and labor estimates, and participating in client presentations and strategic planning.
- Identify and pursue new revenue opportunities while strengthening and maintaining client relationships.
- Prepare, review, and oversee technical deliverables including reports, permit applications, regulatory submittals, and site closure documentation.
- Manage environmental compliance programs related to air quality, water, industrial and construction stormwater, hazardous and solid waste, underground storage tanks, and spill prevention and response.
- Develop and oversee SPCC Plans, Facility Response Plans (FRPs), and other compliance documents in accordance with 40 CFR Part 112.
- Conduct inspections, drills, and exercises to support compliance at commercial and military fuel storage facilities.
- Prepare industrial Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) for bulk fuel storage facilities.
- Develop and implement work plans related to the demolition, removal, and disposal of Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF) fire protection systems.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff, fostering professional growth and adherence to environmental standards.
- Perform QA/QC reviews and implement continuous improvement strategies across projects and teams.
- Oversee subconsultants and contractors during field activities such as environmental sampling, waste management, and construction oversight.
QualificationsWhat We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant environmental engineering experience, including at least 5 in a lead or senior role.
- Strong working knowledge of environmental regulations, standards, and best practices, particularly within aviation or fuel-related environments.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and team-building capabilities.
- Excellent organizational, project management, and prioritization skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including strong client-facing abilities.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to align technical execution to business and organizational goals.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred.
Work Environment
- Based in our Overland Park, KS headquarters
- Primarily in-office role with flexibility
- Frequent, project-dependent travel to client sites, meetings, and industry events
