POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Rides Assistant Manager is responsible for various staffing, administrative, and training-related functions, including staying knowledgeable about all local, national, and industry standards and laws, and ensuring the department remains compliant with these requirements. This position also ensures rides are equipped with all required operating supplies, maintains ride appearance standards, and regularly inspects the condition of ride areas and assets, escalating concerns to the appropriate department or manager as needed.

Assists with ensuring safe day-to-day operation of all Zoo & Aquarium rides, including:
- Monitoring daily ride reports and safety checklists for completion and accuracy.
- Supervising all aspects of ride operation and ensuring proper staffing, safety, capacity, efficiencies, crowd control and guest service standards are being met.
- Providing leadership coverage, in coordination with other Rides leadership staff, to respond to any guest, team member and operational issues, in addition to communicating with various operational partners.
- Inspecting the work environment and equipment for cleanliness, safety, quality, and any potential maintenance needs.
- Performing all duties related to the daily operation of rides, in the absence of staff, including, but not limited to, opening and closing checklists.
- Reporting any safety or deficiency concerns promptly to management and stopping work or closing units/rides when necessary.
- Leading ride evacuations when necessary.
- Maintain Photo systems when necessary.

Assists with various administrative, staffing and training functions, including:
- Scheduling and conducting interviews.
- Completing initial onboarding of new staff.
- Overseeing on-the-job training by monitoring new staff or cross-training staff throughout their training plan to ensure operational proficiency and successful completion, in coordination with local, national, and industry standards or laws.
- Regularly reviewing all training materials to confirm they are compliant with all local, national, and industry standards and/or laws
- Overseeing re-certification and compliance training of staff, as well as occasional auditing to ensure safety and operational standards are being met.
- Motivating and coaching team members daily to maximize their performance.
- Updating and maintaining accurate staff training records.
- Creating staffing schedules and reviewing/approving payroll, while communicating any concerns to leadership.
- Ordering and maintaining necessary operating supplies.

Assists and coordinates with other Zoo and Guest Services departments with various tasks and public/private events, as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- EDUCATION & FORMAL TRAINING:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field preferred.
- EXPERIENCE:
- At least 2 years’ amusement rides, amusement park, or related experience are strongly preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience required.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, are required.
- Experience with Point of Sale and cash register systems preferred.
- Experience with and understanding of per caps and budget preferred.
- Experience with writing and enforcing position procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays and evening hours, in all weather extremes, including direct sunlight.
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time (including the ability to walk at a given pace that is predetermined by a continuously moving ride), as well as the ability to stoop, kneel, climb, crouch, or crawl.
- Can move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance. Assistance depends upon the task or role.
- Ability to work at heights with or without railings or over open pits greater than 4 feet.
- Ability to use hands and fingers to grip, pinch, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Ability to talk for various lengths of time.
- Ability to see and hear clearly (including varied light conditions, depth perception, audible alarms, voice commands with background noise).
- Ability to work in wet, humid conditions, including work near open bodies of water.
- Comfortable with possible exposure to bodily fluids, including blood, vomit, urine, etc.
- Ability to pass a background and drug screening, including verification of a satisfactory driving record.
