Aerostar SES LLC is expanding its workforce and is seeking an Environmental Scientist Intern to join our growing environmental team in Knoxville, TN.

This internship offers hands-on experience in environmental consulting with an emphasis on field investigations, natural resource support, and regulatory compliance activities. The selected candidate will work closely with environmental scientists and project managers to support field sampling, environmental surveys, data management, and technical reporting across a variety of environmental restoration and compliance projects.
This position will include travel for field assignments to support our PFAS remedial investigation field effort at K. I. Sawyer near Marquette, Michigan. This will involve rotations of approximately 10 days on / 4 days off (per diem provided; travel expenses reimbursed).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties, but not all duties performed for this position. Other duties may be assigned.
Assist with collection and documentation of soil, groundwater, surface water, and air samples in accordance with approved work plans and standard operating procedures.
Support field investigations, including site inspections, environmental surveys, and monitoring activities.
Perform data entry, data validation, and basic environmental data analysis.
Maintain accurate field notes, logs, and chain-of-custody documentation.
Collaborate with project team members in both field and office environments while adhering to safety protocols.
Minimum Qualifications:
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, Soil Science, Biology, or a related discipline
Willingness and ability to travel for field assignments, involving rotations of approximately 10 days on / 4 days off (per diem provided; travel expenses reimbursed).
Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and challenging terrain
Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Additional Qualifying Factors:
As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening (post accepted offer) and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.

Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hats, steel-toed boots, eye protection, hearing protection, and respiratory protection.
Maintain continuous situational awareness and attention to safety.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a combination of office and outdoor field settings:
Office work includes extensive computer use and standard administrative tasks.
Field work includes travel, driving, walking, and transporting equipment in all seasons.
May involve exposure to noise, dust, fumes, airborne particulates, hazardous materials, and wildlife.
