Title: Environmental Compliance & ISO 14001 Specialist
Job Summary:
GM Performance Power Units is seeking a hands-on Environmental Compliance & ISO 14001 Specialist to own and manage day-to-day environmental compliance at our Concord facility. This role is operational, visible, and embedded in the business — ideal for someone who enjoys being on the floor, working with vendors, coaching employees, and keeping environmental programs running smoothly and audit-ready.
This position is critical to achieving and maintaining ISO 14001 certification and supporting our participation in the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme. You will act as the site Subject Matter Expert (SME) for environmental compliance and serve as the owner of our Environmental Management System (EMS).
Key Responsibilities:
What You’ll Do (Day-to-Day Focus)
Environmental Compliance & Operations
Perform routine inspections of:
Chemical cabinets and storage areas
Environmental labeling and container compliance
Waste accumulation and satellite areas
Manage environmental labeling, signage, and compliance practices across labs and industrial areas
Partner with waste vendors to:
Coordinate hazardous and non-hazardous waste pickups
Manage manifests and documentation
Ensure proper disposal and regulatory compliance
Serve as the primary environmental point of contact for internal teams and external vendors
Stormwater & Retention Pond Management
Own compliance for the site retention pond and stormwater systems
Conduct required monthly inspections and maintain inspection records
Coordinate official inspections, sampling, and maintenance activities with qualified vendors
Ensure compliance with city, state, and regulatory requirements
ISO 14001 & Environmental Management System (Top Priority)
Build and own the day-to-day management of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
Maintain EMS documentation, procedures, registers, and records
Track compliance obligations, objectives, corrective actions, and continuous improvement items
Lead internal audits and support external audits
Ensure ongoing alignment with ISO 14001 requirements and FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme expectations
Act as the long-term system owner — not a one-time implementation role
Training, Coaching & Engagement
Act as the Environmental SME for the site
Provide environmental training and coaching to employees and contractors
Increase workforce awareness of environmental requirements, proper waste handling, and compliance expectations
Partner with Safety and Operations to integrate environmental requirements into daily work
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or related field(Equivalent experience will be considered)
5+ years of environmental compliance experience in an industrial, manufacturing, laboratory, or regulated facility
Working knowledge of:
ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
Environmental labeling and chemical compliance
Hazardous and non-hazardous waste management
Comfortable working independently and owning programs end-to-end
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Highly Preferred:
Hands-on experience implementing or maintaining an ISO 14001-certified EMS
ISO 14001 Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor certification preferred, or willingness to obtain.
Experience managing vendor relationships (waste, stormwater, inspections)
Experience with stormwater programs or retention pond inspections
Prior involvement with sustainability, ESG, or environmental accreditation programs
Environmental or sustainability-related certifications (e.g., CHMM, EMS Auditor) a plus
Stormwater, hazardous waste, or SPCC training/certifications beneficial but not required

Focused on execution, follow-through, and continuous compliance
A true system owner role for ISO 14001
This role is NOT:
A desk-only regulatory reporting position
A purely strategic or corporate sustainability role
A temporary implementation assignment
