The Engineer will work in Protection and Control design. Performs all aspects of conventional design engineering and analysis, and is familiar with a variety of engineering concepts, practices, and procedures. This role may act as a technical specialist or expand knowledge in other disciplines and/or functional areas. This role provides technical guidance on projects, and is also responsible for developing, validating, and presenting technical output.
Responsibilities:
- Acts as Lead Engineer over protection & controls projects for medium to high voltage utility substations.
- Provides training to others with knowledge in electromechanical relays, microprocessor-based relays, and other related protection & controls topics.
- Develops engineering cost estimates for proposals.
- Oversees the preparation of equipment specifications, bid evaluations and procurement recommendations.
- Development of protection & control design submittals including bill of materials, one-line diagrams, AC three-line diagrams, DC schematics, communication diagrams, SCADA integration, cabling, wiring, and panel front views.
- Familiar with physical layouts of major equipment and verification of phasing.
- Ability to perform quality control checking of protection & control deliverables.
- Prepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
- Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work.
- Prepares a variety of engineering deliverables such as contract documents, project documents, and studies with little to no supervision.
- Understands and adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Demonstrates understanding of project phases, schedules and schedule recovery as it pertains to engineering production and deliverables.
- Actively seeks to understand client interests and drivers through project related client contact and through interaction and communication with project leadership.
- Support Business Development by providing technical information for sales proposals, or by pursuing other related activates as assigned by department managers.
- Continues to learn and develop knowledge and skills in departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and Commonwealth Associates policies and procedures. Applies this knowledge to assigned tasks.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program required.
- FE or EIT
- 2 - 4+ years of related P&C experience
