Our Renewable Energy client is currently looking for an Accountant to join their team in Sommerset West CT.
PositionSummary
The successful candidate will be responsible for a broad range of accounting and financial functions across multiple entities within the group, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of all financial records. This role is critical to the smooth operation of our finance function and supports both day-to-day financial activities and longer term strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will be proactive, highly organised, and possess strong analytical skills, with a solid understanding of accounting principles and statutory requirements. The Accountant will work closely with the wider finance team to support the companies continued growth and success in the renewable energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations
• Accurately capture and process supplier invoices and bills in a timely and organised manner.
• Manage and maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable ledgers across multiple entities.
• Perform three-way matching of purchase orders, supplier invoices, and delivery receipts to verify payments.
• Update, reconcile, and monitor bank accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Weekly Tasks
Prepare and execute weekly payment runs, ensuring payments are accurate, authorised, and supported by appropriate documentation.
• Conduct regular reconciliations of bank accounts and other financial records to identify and resolve discrepancies timeously.
Monthly Duties
Prepare and distribute monthly management accounts, providing clear insights into financial performance, variances, and trends.
• Manage intercompany invoicing and reconciliations, ensuring all cross-entity transactions are accurately recorded and balanced.
• Perform month-end close procedures, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and adjustments.
• Reconcile all balance sheet accounts, including fixed assets, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and loan accounts.
FinancialReporting&Analysis
•Assist in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with IFRS.
• Support budgeting and forecasting processes in collaboration with management.
• Analyse financial data to identify trends, variances, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Systems&InternalControls
• Effectively utilise Zoho and Xero accounting systems, ensuring accurate data capture and efficient financial processing.
• Assist with the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of internal financial controls, policies, and procedures.
• Support annual external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and explanations as required.
Tax&StatutoryCompliance
• Ensure ongoing compliance with SARS and other relevant regulatory bodies.
• Prepare and submit all statutory returns, including VAT, PAYE, UIF, SDL, and income tax.
• Perform monthly VAT reconciliations and assist with tax planning, compliance, and audit queries.
Qualifications&ProfessionalRegistration
• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• SAIPA registered (essential)
• Proven experience in an accounting role, preferably within a multi-entity environment
• Strong working knowledge of South African tax legislation and IFRS
