(Must have experience in design aspects of Solar PV Power Plants / Power Distribution Projects)
1. Objective
The Design Lead (Civil / Structural) is responsible for reviewing and executing all civil and structural engineering activities for Solar PV Power Plants. The role includes facilitating modellers in developing BIM 3D models, coordinating with cross‑functional departments (Electrical, Instrumentation, MEP, etc.), and supporting engineering activities across the full project lifecycle—from pre‑bid to commissioning and O&M.
The Design Lead will guide a team of Design Engineers and Draughts Persons to ensure engineering deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and with high quality. The role also involves providing technical support to site teams as required.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Ensure timely delivery of engineering drawings and documents
- Align engineering deliverables with project schedules
- Review drawings prepared by Design Engineers and Draughts Persons
- Check design and sizing calculations of engineering electrical equipment and secure client approvals
- Review vendor engineering deliverables
- Manage multiple tasks efficiently and deliver on time
- Estimate and plan man‑hour requirements
- Review BOQ and provide technical clarifications to the contracts team
- Coordinate with multiple disciplines for inter‑departmental checks
- Provide technical support and clarifications to the Site Execution team
- Conduct pre‑award vendor evaluations based on client technical requirements and forward validation documents to SCM
- Inspect equipment from finalized vendors after validation document submission
- Clarify design‑related issues raised by the Site Execution team
- Collect project inputs (soil report, boundary coordinates, topo survey, etc.) from client and Section Head
- Coordinate with Operations team for design specification approvals
- Collect General Arrangement (GA) inputs from vendors
- Support Electrical DC, AC & Instrumentation teams in reviewing vendor drawings
- Submit man‑hour requirements for design and drawing review
- Deliver design outputs such as:
- Module mounting structure design
- GA drawings
- Control room and inverter room civil/structural drawings
- Solar plant civil infrastructure drawings and designs
3. Technical Expertise
The Design Lead must possess strong technical expertise in civil and structural engineering for solar power plants, including:
- Control room buildings
- Transformer foundations
- Outdoor equipment foundations
- Inverter rooms
- Grading, roads, and drainage
- Outdoor steel structures
- Miscellaneous civil works
The role requires the ability to review vendor engineering documents, interpret contractual technical requirements, and support project teams as needed.
