While predominately office-based, this role requires travel to other office locations and project sites from time to time. What You’ll Be Doing: Directly reporting to our Corporate HSE Manager, you will:
Coach, support, and audit the effective implementation of McElhanney’s HSEMS across operations.
Support McElhanney’s HSE Systems team in the consultation and development of key internal projects and the continuous improvement of our HSEMS.
Develop Safe Work Methods in collaboration with subject matter experts and support the continual improvement of all elements within McElhanney’s HSEMS.
Develop and deliver online training and education to employees.
Provide support, coaching, and feedback to supervisors in the investigation of incidents, determining root causes, and the recommendation of corrective actions.
Proactively identify non-compliance issues and general opportunities for improvement. Assist in the development of solutions to improve safety performance.
Complete McElhanney’s Subcontractor HSE Prequalification Process as required for projects and support the development of Project Specific Safety Plans.
Perform internal audits and provide recommendations and corrective actions to management.
Conduct worksite inspections on field project worksites to help verify the effective implementation of McElhanney’s HSE Management System (HSEMS) and provide continuous improvement opportunities for workers and the Branch.
Administrative tasks relating to data tracking, data entry, document management, and performance reporting.
Other tasks as assigned.
What You’ll Bring:
Minimum 5 years of experience in an OHS role; strong technical knowledge of OHS hazards, regulations, and best practices related to construction or other high-risk industries.
A valid, unrestricted driver’s license and access to a reliable personal vehicle.
A proactive safety mindset where you take initiative and get ahead of challenges.
Attention to detail, and an ability to work well in a team environment
Comfortable with the use of AI (e.g. generative AI) and technology (e.g. using mobile applications and being proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Excellent organizational skills, communication skills, and strong technical writing skills
Champion’s Spirit – To work independently with minimal supervision and to walk with your team through changes and ambiguous situations
Bonus Points For:
Diploma or certificate in OHS and/or CRSP or CRST designation, or being a candidate for either designation
Experience in the following is an asset:
Civil construction.
Remote worksites and technical terrain.
A widely dispersed workforce of small crews or individuals
A multi-disciplinary business supporting a combination of office and field work.
Experience providing training in physical and virtual classroom environments is an asset.
Experience developing HSE-related programs, standards, and practices.
What Can We Offer You? The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $100,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
