Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a senior executive responsible for overseeing the financial strategy, planning, and management of the company. In a solar company, the CFO plays a critical role in project finance, cash flow management, tax incentives (ITC), regulatory compliance, and supporting scalable growth.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and execute the company’s financial strategy aligned with business goals and growth plans
- Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive leadership team
- Provide financial insights to support decision-making, investments, and expansion
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
- Analyze financial performance, margins, and project profitability
- Prepare financial models for solar projects, acquisitions, and financing
Project Finance & Capital Management
- Lead solar project financing, including debt, equity, tax equity, and PPA structures
- Manage relationships with banks, investors, tax equity partners, and lenders
- Optimize cash flow across construction, installation, and interconnection phases
Accounting & Compliance
- Ensure accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards
- Oversee accounting, payroll, AP/AR, and internal controls
- Manage audits, tax filings, and financial risk management
Tax Credits & Incentives
- Oversee federal, state, and local solar incentives, including the Investment Tax Credit (ITC)
- Ensure proper documentation and compliance for incentive programs
- Coordinate with tax advisors and legal counsel
Operational & Cost Management
- Monitor installation costs, labor, materials, and overhead to maintain profitability
- Implement systems and processes to improve financial efficiency
- Support pricing strategy and contract review
Team & Systems Leadership
- Build and manage the finance, accounting, and payroll teams
- Oversee financial systems, ERP software, and reporting tools
- Establish scalable processes to support company growth
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred)
- 8–15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience
- Experience in solar, renewable energy, construction, or project-based industries strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of project finance, tax equity, and capital structures
- Proven experience managing cash flow in a high-growth environment
