Hours: Part-time with a tentative end date in late fall/early winter, pending business operations and individual performance (flexible schedule available a minimum of 24 hours per week including weekends and holidays)
Pay Rate: $15.00/hour
Summary:
Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking a guest-first, hospitality-focused Crew Member to support the Concessions Department by delivering friendly, efficient, and welcoming service to every guest. Crew Members play a key role in creating positive, high-energy guest experiences by supporting a variety of concessions operations, including daily food preparation, setting up service and cooking areas, cash register operations, and maintaining clean, safe, and inviting service locations.
This position reports directly to the Concession Supervisors and Assistant Manager of the Concessions Department and works as part of a collaborative team committed to service excellence, teamwork, and memorable guest experiences.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Works in a professional manner to provide exceptional guest service in a high traffic location.
- Listens and communicates effectively while anticipating guest needs; works with Supervisor to resolve guests concerns.
- Operate POS systems in accordance to policy with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Promotes a teamwork environment; assist co-workers when necessary.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Ensure that work and food surfaces are kept clean and neat at all times; this includes kitchen area, dishes, floors, and outside maintenance.
- Daily setup and food preparation.
- Operation of kitchen equipment including but not limited to: fryer, grill, and cleaning equipment.
- Adhere to Douglas County Health Department Rules & Regulations for food service.
- Accurately take guests orders.
- Accurately prepare guests orders in a timely manner.
- Provide general information about prices, location of specific attractions/exhibits and safety rules.
- Participate in the coordination, set up, and tear down of activities.
- Adhere to safe work practice and procedures. Report any accidents immediately to Supervisor or Manager.
Job Requirements:
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Must be available to work up to 24 hours each week.
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
- Must have an outgoing and engaging personality.
- Ability to work outside.
- Able to communicate clearly.
Candidates might be required to pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, and possess a valid drivers license with a good history.
Food Handler Permit Requirement:
As of February 1: All food and beverage employees at the Zoo must possess an active Food Handler Permit registered with the Douglas County Health Department at time of hire, or must successfully complete Food Handler training and obtain a certificate within 30 days of employment.
Training is provided onsite at the Zoo, and is paid at the employee's regular hourly rate. The Zoo will cover the certification fee ($20) for the employee's initial certification attempt. Any additional attempts required to obtain certification will be at the employee's expense. Failure to demonstrate or obtain the required certification within the specified timeframe is a violation of health code requirements and will result in termination.
Experience:
- Prior cash handling experience preferred but not required.
- Prior guest service experience preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is performed indoors in a climate controlled environment, may be asked to perform in other areas to include outdoor locations. Must wear close toe shoes. While in performance of job duties the employee is required to stand; walk, use hands to finger, handle, signal and feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch and/or crawl; talk and hear; frequently lift 25 pounds using safe and proper methods.
