About the role
Seeking a skilled and experienced Battery DRE (Design and Release Engineer) to oversee full program lifecycle from concept to series production for the battery system. The battery DRE will ensure optimized design of the battery system to meet the requirements specific to the Aptera vehicle.
What you'll do
- Lead the design and integration of battery systems and components, including enclosures, modules, busbars, and thermal management systems
- Perform and/or work with internal engineers/designers or external service providers to create, develop, validate, and release all battery components for prototyping and series production
- Develop and lead FMEAs to identify and mitigate potential design risks
- Control design revision of parts and assemblies with tight traceability between design and part
- Use 3DExperience (or Catia V6) to perform 2D drawings, 3D part design, 3D assembly design studies
- Design components and system for function, performance, durability, and quality in compliance with appropriate industry standards
- Create and execute design validation plans (DVP&Rs) and process validation plans to ensure the component's performance and quality
- Work with purchasing and quality to source all components from reputable suppliers and integrate with the manufacturing plan
- Devise or collaborate with suppliers to devise testing to verify the battery components
- Work closely with other departments, including manufacturing, quality, simulation, and project management, as well as the vehicle integration team
- Work with suppliers to ensure components fulfill PPAP and suppliers comply with IATF 16949
- Coordinate test activities, equipment, and facilities with third parties to achieve goals
- Document processes and procedures in knowledge sharing tools such as Confluence
- Plan and execute work breakdown in task management tools such as Jira
Qualifications
- Hands-on leader, propelling teams toward our collective objectives
- Practical or professional experience in automotive high-voltage battery systems
- Experience with automotive systems and component design, analysis, and validation
- Familiarity of mechanical, and electrical, schematics
- Demonstrated experience with 3D CAD software
- Experience with PLM/PDM tools
- Self-motivation and desire for continuous improvement
- Great technical and interpersonal communication
- Evidence of being a self-starter and bringing projects to completion
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced and ambiguous environments
- Experience testing high voltage battery systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with 3DExperience or CATIA V6 is a plus
- Demonstrated experience performing/interpreting FEA/FEM is a plus
- Proficiency with task management tools (Jira is a plus)
Team Structure
- Individual contributor. Collaborate with onsite and remote engineers and technicians to achieve team and individual goals, furthering our collective mission. Provide direct instruction and work verification to technicians aiding with instrumentation and test setup, test execution, and data collection.
Required Experience
- 3 to 5 years of experience in electric vehicle battery system engineering, preferably in a successful production program.
- 2 years as a design and release engineer, preferably in a successful production program.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in automotive or mechanical engineering or equivalent
