Job Description and Duties
The Division of Engineering Services (DES), Structure Construction (SC), is recruiting to fill a Senior Bridge Engineer (Supervisory) position in Fresno County.
This position reports directly to the Supervising Bridge Engineer. The incumbent is responsible for and manages a staff of engineering employees on multiple structure projects while managing field staff on smaller structure projects.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Bridge Engineer exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Special Requirements
- The incumbent must possess a valid certification of registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.
A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required. The SOQ must be typed, single spaced, 12‑point font, and no more than two (2) pages in length. Applicants who do not follow these requirements may be disqualified from the recruitment. Cover letters and resumes do not take the place of the SOQ. The SOQ must be submitted along with the State Application.

- Describe your knowledge and experience in bridge construction methods and engineering, bridge rehabilitation and maintenance techniques, structural analysis, project development process, procedures and philosophies.
- Demonstrate your ability to think out of the box, analyze risks and opportunities, make a decision and get buy in from stakeholders.
- Describe your involvement in SC Tech Teams and please detail your contribution.
- Describe your involvement in hiring, training, mentoring, and development of new staff.
- Describe your leadership style/philosophy.
