Your Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer/Project Manager to support and expand our transportation and infrastructure environmental practice in Ohio and the Midwest. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop a regional presence, grow a practice, and contribute to impactful projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in building client relationships, expanding service offerings, and supporting multidisciplinary project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead environmental engineering efforts for transportation and infrastructure projects (roadway, transit, aviation).
- Prepare and review technical reports, environmental assessments, and engineering conceptual studies.
- Conduct QA/QC reviews of engineering plans and environmental documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant standards.
- Coordinate environmental commitment plan notes and post-construction monitoring activities.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including engineers, planners, ecologists, and regulatory specialists.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships and support business development efforts.
- Participate in public and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Provide technical support to Stantec’s Transportation and Environmental Services teams.
- Manage environmental engineering projects including scope, schedule, budget, and team coordination.
- Ensure project deliverables meet quality standards and client expectations.
- Lead internal project meetings and coordinate with subcontractors and consultants.
- Assists with the development of strategic plans.
- Provide guidance and input to direct reports including direct supervision acting as an advisor to meet schedules and resolve problems.
- Manage the annual performance process and career development for direct reports.
- Involvement in the recruitment of staff.
QualificationsYour Capabilities and Credentials
- Strong understanding of environmental engineering principles and regulatory frameworks (e.g., NEPA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act).
- Proven experience in environmental engineering for transportation or infrastructure projects.
- Ability to build and maintain client relationships and identify new business opportunities.
- Skilled in preparing high-quality technical documents, calculations, and exhibits.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently or collaboratively.
- Passion for environmental stewardship and sustainable engineering solutions.
- Experience leading a team.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering is required.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive engineering and project management experience in environmental projects and regulatory compliance is required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Completion of ODOT environmental prequalification training preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, OpenRoads Designer, Civil 3D, and ArcGIS preferred.
- Previous experience managing a team and leading direct reports is required.
