Job Description and Duties
Under the general direction of the Office Chief of Encroachment and Outdoor Advertising Permits, a Supervising Transportation Engineer (Manager), the incumbent, a Senior Transportation Engineer, serves as a functional manager of the Encroachment Permits (EP) Branch. Activities focus on developing and implementing the statewide Caltrans’ EP Program.
As the Branch Chief, the incumbent oversees transportation engineers in developing statewide policies and procedures, establishing resource allocations, monitoring production, and addressing various issues for the EP Program. The incumbent also provides functional direction and engineering consultation to district staff on issues related to Caltrans' policies and procedures associated with the issuance of encroachment permits, permit inspections, and the stormwater program.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Transportation Engineer, Caltrans exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
