POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Battery Technician II is a field position that may start in our shop for training purposes, with the intent to get on the road to visit customer sites within a short time. You will diagnose and repair batteries, and associated charging equipment, ensuring all repairs address the problem and not the symptom. This includes repairing, adjusting, and cleaning batteries and charging stations at customer sites. It will also include replacing electrical or mechanical components or parts, using hand tools, power tools, soldering, or welding equipment. You must be able to operate machines to test the functioning of parts or mechanisms. You will be assigned a company vehicle to use in performing the duties of your job and must have a qualified driving record.
With the minimum goal of eight (8) hours, the Technician keeps track of his/her time throughout the day to ensure all work time is billable. The Technician must communicate in advance to his/her supervisor, any occasions where lost and/or overtime may be incurred. Throughout the day, the Technician communicates with the Supervisor and keeps them in the loop as to the progress of assigned jobs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Battery Repair and Maintenance
- Removes and disassembles cells and inspects parts to detect defects.
- Replaces defective parts, reassembles battery, and fuses lead parts with a gas torch.
- Fills cells with acid solution and determines the specific gravity of solution.
- Washes, cleans and neutralizes customers’ batteries at the shop or customer location.
- Provides preventive maintenance at company locations.
Charging Equipment
- Diagnoses and repairs battery charging equipment.
- Attaches charger leads to battery posts or connector and starts charger.
- Reads meters and adjusts charge parameters to control time and flow of current through the battery.
- Install new or modified equipment at the customer's facility to ensure full functionality according to specifications.
- Performs inspections and analyzes findings to determine the source of the problem, and recommends repair, replacement, or other corrective action.
- Coordinates problem resolution with technical support, customer service, sales, and other personnel to expedite repairs.
- Operates material handling equipment per OSHA requirements.
General Duties
- When in the shop, may assist in preparing, loading, and unloading product for shipment.
- Attends all regularly scheduled service and safety meetings.
- Keeps company vehicle clean inside and outside, neat, and serviceable and is proactive on maintenance items including cracked windshields, worn tires, brakes, etc.
- If assigned a company vehicle, keeps inside and outside clean, neat, and serviceable always, and is proactive on maintenance items including cracked windshields, worn tires, brakes, etc.
- When driving, drives in accordance with established DMV and company driving rules and regulations, maintains any required log and is a courteous driver.
- Follows environmental and safety regulations, reporting any potential hazards that may cause injury to supervisor immediately.
- Submits required work completion reports on time according to standards.
- Required to drive vehicle to customer and branch locations across Northern California.
- Will use tablet as a telephone, messenger, and work tool, so expect to wear a Bluetooth and type into the tablet regularly.
- Willing to accept other duties, responsibilities and/or special projects as directed by management.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Required
- 2 to 3 years of experience as a Battery Technician.
- Electrical and/or electric charging station maintenance experience.
- Proven equipment troubleshooting and diagnosis skills.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must have a valid REAL ID/ Passport.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to work safely under pressure, take general directions, and use good judgment when working independently.
- Ability to shift priorities and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to act in a way that is consistent with our values.
- Experience working on a Mobile Device to enter written information, take photos, and upload photos.
- Experience using Microsoft Office 365 products, especially Outlook and Teams.
- Ability to drive a motor vehicle and other industrial equipment if necessary to travel to customer site(s) and test equipment.
- Regular, predictable, full-shift attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Qualified DMV record, background check, and drug screen.
- Required to take scheduled blood lead level testing.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
- Required to move frequently, stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, turn, climb, push, pull, squat, and/or remain balanced for extended lengths of time throughout their scheduled working period.
- Required to reach above and below the shoulder, use repetitive hand, wrist and forearm rotation along with fine manipulation with right and left hands.
- Required to use their hands on a routine and daily basis to grasp, reach, touch, handle, feel, and/or otherwise operate required tools or controls.
- Required to twist at the neck and waist frequently.
- Operation of foot controls or repetitive foot movement required for driving equipment including forklift and motor vehicle, including long driving periods to locations across Northern California.
- Will use tablet as a telephone, messenger, and work tool, so expect to wear a Bluetooth device and use fine hand movements to enter information into the tablet daily.
- Must be able to move about the work area in a variety of different temperatures and environments and work safely in all weather conditions.
- Hear with or without correction to be able to interpret and receive information and directions.
- Communicate, verbally and in written form, regularly to describe and explain detailed, important, and accurate instructions internally and directly with customers.
- Occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- The associate must be able to work safely at heights using applicable ladders and elevated working platforms.
- Lift 50 pounds without assistance and 100 pounds with assistance from others or utilizing a lifting device.
- Noise level fluctuates based on worksite.
