About Central Park and the Central Park Conservancy
Central Park is one of the most famous and beloved urban public spaces in the world. Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux in 1857, the 843-acre park was the first purpose-built public park in the country and is a National Historic Landmark. The Central Park Conservancy, a private not-for-profit organization, was founded in 1980 to rescue the Park which had fallen into serious disrepair. Since that time, the Conservancy has overseen the investment of approximately $1.6 billion in the restoration of the Park, and now hosts over 40 million visitors a year.
The Conservancy’s mission is to preserve and celebrate Central Park as a sanctuary from the pace and pressures of city life, enhancing the enjoyment and wellbeing of all. The City of New York has formally entrusted the care of the Park to the Conservancy which is responsible for every aspect of the Park’s care, including landscape maintenance, capital improvements, and the visitor experience. Committed to sharing the best practices in urban park management, the Conservancy also serves as a resource for other NYC parks and for public-private partnerships around the world. The Conservancy employs approximately 400 people and has an operating budget of $120 million.
Position Summary
The Receptionist is responsible for various functions within the Office Services team. This position is responsible for greeting visitors and managing all incoming inquiries. The role will work with the team to maintain a uniform and professional appearance of the entire office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greet visitors and provide assistance to guests.
- Answer incoming Central Park Conservancy phone calls and take appropriate action; initiate follow-up as needed.
- Log information and requests, and route responses into Salesforce ticketing system.
- Maintain front desk area. keeping it tidy and free of hazards.
- Manage responses to the Conservancy’s “contact us” emails.
- Assist with the set-up, maintenance, and breakdown of common areas (e.g., kitchen, conference room, huddle rooms) for regular and special events; order, set-up and breakdown catering and A/V equipment for meetings.
- Submit work order through Smartsheets.
- Serve as liaison between park patrons and the Central Park Rangers.
- Assist Office Services team with day-to-day operations.
- Post open positions to external career sites.
- Assist with additional projects as needed.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong communication skills.
- Good understanding of operating instructions and processes for office machinery.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
Qualifications
- High school diploma with two years of related office and customer service experience.
- Ability to interact effectively and courteously, in-person, via email and telephone, with all internal staff, external callers and visitors.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and perform general clerical functions (photocopying, electronic scheduling, record-keeping, and mailing)
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Experience in Papersave and Raiser’s Edge. a plus.
Salary range: $55K - $69K (based on level of experience)
