Position details:
• This job posting will be open until filled and will hire four individuals.
• This is a seasonal, full-time (40 hours/week) position and is anticipated to start April 6, 2026 and end on May 29, 2026.
• Hourly rate range: $18.00 - 19.05/hour dependent on experience.
• The work location is based in Cushing, MN.
• Shared housing and basic utilities are provided at no cost to the employee upon signing and agreeing to housing terms, and the employee must live in the provided housing to meet the needs and nature of the position and to maximize the effectiveness of the crew.

Based in the Prairie-Forest Border Ecoregion of Central Minnesota, our Burn Crew Members (BCM) participate in prescribed fire operations which include ignition, holding, mop-up, suppression, monitoring, burn break preparation, and other tasks as assigned. As part of the BCM’s ongoing professional development, you will be responsible for keeping abreast of new burn techniques and equipment to enhance skills and maintain/grow professional fire certification credentials. In addition, you will work to build and maintain relationships in the professional fire community and in the local community where the Conservancy works. This will include participation in prescribed fire activities in partnership with other non-profits, local, state and federal agencies, and tribal or indigenous communities, as a TNC employee.
You will also assist with maintaining preserve areas frequented by the visiting public, maintaining tools and equipment, and perform other land management activities. This includes removing exotic species, conducting species monitoring, and/or removing trees and brush. You may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and uneven terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.

What You’ll Bring:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have or be able to obtain the qualifications for Prescribed Fire Crew Member (RXCM) or Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2), including Introduction to ICS (I-100), Human Factors on the Fire line (L-180), Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior (S-190), Firefighting Training (S-130), and one training burn serving under the supervision of a qualified FFT2 as a requirement for this position. - Must achieve physical fitness standards as determined by the local Prescribed Fire Manager and the TNC Fire Management Manual.
- Experience operating various types of equipment.
- Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required (e.g., First Aid, CPR).
Desired Qualifications
- 6 months - 1 year of related experience.
- Ability and willingness to follow instructions from colleagues.
