Environmental Specialist – Shape a National Environmental Program at EllisDon
Are you an environmental professional with on-the-ground construction experience who’s ready to step into a strategic, corporate role? Do you want to apply your field knowledge in a way that influences projects across Canada—not just one site at a time?
If you’re driven, solutions-oriented, and excited by the challenge of helping build a national environmental program from the ground up, EllisDon’s Corporate Environmental Team is looking for you.
We’re a small, energetic, and entrepreneurial group modernizing how environmental risk is understood and managed across one of Canada’s largest and most diverse builders. This role is perfect for someone who loves construction, knows what “good” looks like on a site, but is ready to bring that insight into an office-based corporate environment where your impact is multiplied across the company.
What You’ll Do: Lead, Influence, and Build
Drive Environmental Program Development
- Help evolve EllisDon’s Environmental Management System (EMS) into a consistent, modern, ISO 14001-aligned framework used across the entire organization.
- Participate in shaping new corporate environmental initiatives—including, standardized templates, and strategic guidance for all business lines.
Bring Construction Experience into Strategic Decision-Making
- Support bid teams and pursuit leads by identifying environmental risks early and offering practical, cost-sensitive mitigation strategies.
- Apply your understanding of construction realities—ESC, dewatering, groundwater, contaminated soil, staging, sequencing—to create actionable, right-sized solutions.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to superintendents, PMs, estimators, and HSE teams across Canada.
- Provide expert guidance on groundwater treatment systems, dewatering planning, discharge permitting, and water-quality protection.
- Help teams interpret consultant reports, design practical protection measures, and avoid regulatory pitfalls.
National Environmental Oversight & Consistency
- Conduct site visits and internal reviews to strengthen consistency across regions—from BC to Atlantic Canada.
- Support regional teams in implementing corporate environmental expectations and raising the national baseline of practice.
- Work with internal partners (HSE, Legal, Sustainability, Bid/Pursuits, Operations) to ensure environmental risk is always part of the conversation.
Modernize Data, Tools & Reporting
- Administer and help improve EllisDon’s environmental management software—tracking KPIs, analyzing trends, and translating data into useful insights.
- Contribute to templates, checklists, and tools that make environmental planning easier, clearer, and more effective for project teams.
Who You Are
You’re an environmental professional who thrives at the intersection of construction, technical problem-solving, and strategic program development.
You bring:
- 3–7 years of environmental experience in construction, infrastructure, remediation, civil works, or similar fields.
- Strong knowledge of groundwater management, dewatering, and/or water treatment systems—or a strong desire to specialize in them.
- A solid understanding of environmental permitting and regulatory frameworks across Canadian jurisdictions.
- Experience on job sites (or running environmental programs for them), but comfort working primarily from an office-based corporate role.
- Interest in national-scale program development, consistency, and continuous improvement.
- Great communication skills—able to translate environmental requirements into practical solutions that teams will actually use.
- A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset: you’re someone who sees a gap and builds the solution.
Why This Role Is a Standout Opportunity
- Small team, big impact—you will directly influence EllisDon’s environmental strategy for years to come.
- A hybrid of construction + strategy—use your field experience to shape corporate expectations and national tools.
- Rare exposure to projects across all sectors and provinces, letting you build Canada-wide expertise.
- Growth & ownership—you’re not stepping into a legacy system; you’re helping build one.
