MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college and six (6) months of experience in environmental protection, regulation, or health; one of the physical or natural sciences; or engineering; or
One and a half (1.5) years of experience as an Environmental Specialist I or higher with the State of Florida; or
Two (2) years of experience as described above.

JOB DUTIES:
General: Assists the Bureau of Agricultural Environmental Laboratories' (BAEL) Quality Assurance Officer (QAO)/Quality Manager in implementing Quality Assurance (QA) Program policies and procedures, including good laboratory practice standards for chemical and biological analyses. Assists in maintaining the Laboratories' Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's). Performs analytical evaluation of laboratory data and validates analyses. Evaluates data trends for environmental ground water studies and laboratory quality control samples. Assists in the development, adaptation, and standardization of analytical methodology utilized for sample testing in the Bureau of Agricultural Environmental Laboratories. Conducts internal performance audits of the bureau’s quality system and SOPs, prepares audit reports for the bureau and ensures procedures are up to date with current accreditation requirements.
Responsible for maintaining Bureau of Agricultural Environmental Laboratories Quality Assurance Program policies. Assists the QAO in ensuring that bureau quality procedures meet the United States (US) Environmental Protection Agency’s quality Competency Policy requirements (FEM-2012-01). Performs analytical chemistry evaluation of various types of laboratory data including gas chromatograms, liquid chromatograms, photo diode array spectrum and mass spectrum generated through analysis in the laboratories to ensure that results are accurate and meet QA requirements for data integrity. Responsible for validating analyses in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Assists the QAO in writing Quality Assurance and Safety Standard Operating Procedures.
Assists the QAO in managing the inventory and coordinating the preparation of the Laboratories' analytical reference standard materials. Responsible for scheduling, tracking, and reviewing data for Proficiency Test samples. Ensure that results are submitted to the Proficiency Testing (PT) provider by the due dates. Performs calibration verification analyses on laboratory equipment such as analytical balances, auto pipetters, and thermometers to ensure that they meet laboratory quality control specifications. Maintains the analytical standard database.
Responsible for assisting the QAO in developing and implementing QA procedures and policies that will meet the requirements for laboratory accreditation with the International Standardization Organization (ISO). Assists the QAO with training, internal and external auditing of the certified and exempt feed laboratories.
Performs related duties as assigned or required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of laboratory testing and analysis procedures, techniques, and equipment.
- Ability to: plan organize and coordinate work assignments; utilize problem-solving techniques; and analyze data relating to Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LCMS), Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS), and Inductively Coupled Mass Spectrometry (ICPMS).
